With the explosion of enterprise information, employees today often find themselves wasting precious time retrieving information, and even having to duplicate the work of others when relevant results are not returned. This is the kind of inefficiency that cannot be ignored by organizations who strive for ongoing success.
Autonomy offers organizations a uniquely powerful knowledge management solution, designed to help companies gain competitive advantage by automatically leveraging the knowledge base of individual employees, exploiting late-breaking industry developments and 'mining' unstructured information for insight, regardless of the format or source. Autonomy's knowledge management solution was developed to help companies bypass some of the cultural barriers to knowledge management. Autonomy recognizes that it is unrealistic to expect employees to spend a lot of time categorizing or tagging documents that others might find useful, or filling out elaborate questionnaires identifying their areas of expertise. Thus, organizations need a solution to make these processes automatic, so that effective knowledge management becomes almost a byproduct of normal business functions.
Powered by IDOL, Autonomy's knowledge management solution automates the categorization, cross-referencing, hyperlinking and presentation of information
This automation virtually eliminates the need for manual labor in the process
Automatically summarize content and recommend related articles and documents via hypertext links
Create newsfeeds which automatically monitor news developments and inform individual employees of items relevant to their specific job and interests
Understand all information in over 1,000 different file formats, including audio and video, stored in over 400 repositories and in any language
To make each employee's knowledge base accessible to others, Autonomy technology uses a profiling system that works in two ways. Employees can explicitly declare their interests, perhaps as part of an appraisal process, or through implicit profiling, which can automatically identify an employee's area of expertise based on their regular research and the documents and emails they work with on a daily process. Profiling enables people, as well as documents, to be suggested when looking for information or as part of a daily working routine. This helps facilitate the creation of virtual workgroups, encourages communication, knowledge sharing and collaboration, whilst also reducing the duplication of effort.
Key elements of Autonomy's knowledge management platform include:
Personalization
In most organizations, employees have highly specific and specialized areas of interest that extend far beyond the definitions that could be explained by simple keywords. Autonomy can accurately link people and information in context, in real-time, using concepts identified from explicit profiling in natural language, (as well as from keyword and Boolean operators where users prefer to use these methods). Autonomy's refine by example capabilities mean that employees need not conduct a traditional search for information, but can simply ask to see content similar to that which they are looking at. Another complementary approach to this is the implicit profiling of user behavior, such as consumption and sharing of information, which adds greater insight into each user's activities and interests and provides a powerful way to deliver highly pertinent, relevant content.
Expertise Networks - Location of Experts and Communities of Practice
A simple, easy to use interface enables users to find experts based on their explicitly defined skill set, as well as their implicit expertise profile. The combination of these two approaches powers the highlighting of areas that employees are considered experts, making them easy to locate, and thereby decreasing time and effort wasted searching.
Collaboration Networks
Autonomy technology can automatically recommend employees with similar users in the community, detailing synergies between people, fostering collaboration and decreasing the likelihood of duplication of effort. This is a critical functionality for multinational organizations, where employees might be working on diverse projects that actually leverage highly similar principles.
Autonomy's technology helps organizations maximise not only on their information, but also their knowledge assets and workforce. Tacit knowledge is often a company's biggest value, yet capturing and ensuring its capitalization and the collaboration of employees, especially across a global organisation, can be a big challenge. Autonomy helps companies share and optimise these valuable assets, in a user friendly, engaging way.
Information is the lifeblood of organizations and leveraging it to improve employees' knowledge and skill base is essential for achieving optimal productivity levels. Today, many organizations are becoming aware that they hold a huge amount of relevant information spread across their data repositories, yet are unable to get that information to the right people. This challenge becomes even greater in global multicultural organizations, where relevant content is often contained in different languages and distributed across multiple locations. Thus, employees often find themselves deluged by a mass of data, constantly reinventing the wheel in order to progress.
Autonomy's IDOL can help organizations harness the knowledge and expertise held by their employees by providing a highly robust and scalable environment that can help educate them while on the job. Autonomy's infrastructure software negates the need for either a physical library or for additional people to catalog a virtual one. Autonomy's intuitive approach, analyzing patterns and identifying concepts within information, enables speed and accuracy of information retrieval, which cuts hassle, reduces frustration and can rapidly become habit forming among users.
Autonomy's technology can aggregate and deliver content from corporate applications, legacy information systems, as well as major external news and research websites
The software analyzes text, audio and video sources to generate training documents that are automatically linked to related product support materials and technology briefs from other libraries
The technology is also able to understand knowledge gaps and proactively suggest areas for increased learning
Autonomy's technology can power an e-learning system to provide the critical link between business strategy and an individual's job role
No need to reinvent successful e-learning processes, Autonomy's technology is mapped onto the employees' preferred way of working
In essence, Autonomy's technology can provide a fundamental e-learning solution to organizations that allows them to bridge the gaps in corporate knowledge and enhance employee's performance and training by giving employees personalized and complete access to the information and tools they need to do their jobs effectively, whilst supporting them in their continual education and career progression.
