HP Unveils Industry's First Unified Information Protection Software Solution for Enterprise
HP Data Protector 7 transforms how organizations protect and extract value from information
LAS VEGAS, June 4, 2012 - HP today unveiled HP Data Protector 7, a software solution that empowers organizations to manage the explosive growth of data with advanced backup and recovery capabilities that work at an unprecedented scale. Powered by the Autonomy Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL), HP Data Protector 7 delivers a unified platform for all storage assets via federated deduplication.
The company also announced the next-generation release of HP StoreOnce data deduplication solution, the industry's only federated deduplication solution. With HP StoreOnce, data is deduplicated once using a single technology and then moved anywhere without ever having to be rehydrated-or added back in (1), which dramatically improves performance and reduces administration costs for global organizations.
Both solutions leverage market-leading technology from HP Labs-the company's central research arm-and Autonomy, an HP Company, to enable clients to eliminate redundant data and identify the content most important for the business to protect.
HP Data Protector 7 automatically understands the context of unstructured, human information-such as social media, video, images, audio and email-to identify and prioritize how information is protected. Traditional data-protection approaches are unable to understand the ideas and concepts expressed in the burgeoning volumes of big data. By contrast, once information is indexed by Autonomy IDOL, the data can be automatically accessed and applied to a wide array of cloud-based solutions, including archiving, eDiscovery, information governance and revenue optimization.
"Increased regulated industry compliance, distributed remote workforces and reduced IT budgets are hindering backup and recovery success for many organizations," said David Jones, chief executive officer, Data Protection, Autonomy, an HP Company. "HP Data Protector is the industry's first unified data protection solution that utilizes an intelligent data-management approach to seamlessly protect data based on its meaning across on-premise, hybrid and cloud environments, while optimizing business application performance."
HP Data Protector 7 enables clients to:
Meet legal discovery and compliance needs by utilizing powerful governance tools, including eDiscovery and legal hold, to perform contextual search on backup data, as well as find and recover data by meaning.
Achieve zero-downtime recovery of information, necessary for mission-critical environments, through extensive integrated support for leading enterprise applications, as well as granular single-item recovery of SharePoint, VMware and Microsoft® Exchange data.
Drive enterprise-wide information protection by integrating with HP StoreOnce B6200 to extend advanced federated deduplication from data-center core to the edge.
Extend information protection to cloud-based offsite storage with integrated access to the highly secure Autonomy private cloud-the world's largest storage-as-a-service offering at more than 50 petabytes, built on the HP Converged Cloud.
Availability
HP Data Protector 7 is available now worldwide directly from HP and its ecosystem of channel partners. Cloud-based backup option is offered separately via a monthly subscription agreement.
