AUTONOMY DELIVERS COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION TO ENABLE COMPLIANCE WITH EXTENDED HIPAA REQUIREMENTS

New Capabilities in Autonomy iManage WorkSite Enable Law Firms to Meet Federal Data Privacy Regulations

Cambridge, UK and SAN FRANCISCO - November 17, 2009 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced new capabilities for its Information Management & Governance offerings that support the data privacy requirements as outlined in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. Autonomy iManage Worksite now supports automated encryption of HIPAA regulated information and provides policy-based management to ensure that regulated data is not accidentally disclosed.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) extends the reach of the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) data privacy requirements to businesses that provide services to the healthcare industry. As a result, entities that perform legal, actuarial, or accounting services must take appropriate steps to prevent the breach of private healthcare data in their possession. In addition to expanding the scope of entities required to comply with HIPAA, the act significantly increases the penalties for breaches and mandates periodic audits of these organizations.

The unique meaning-based technology of Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) provides Worksite users with an automated approach that ensures compliance with these new healthcare data privacy regulations. Some of Worksite's new capabilities that support compliance with this act include:

Automatic identification, flagging, and encryption of healthcare records
Automatic encryption of data during storage as well as during transport of the data across the network
Secure email allowing users to send encrypted healthcare records
Policy-based controls to automatically prevent accidentally emailing unencrypted health records

These new capabilities enable law firms, accounting firms, and government institutions that increasingly deal with healthcare related information to easily comply with the additional HIPAA regulations and avoid significant fines and damage to their reputation.

"The complexity and challenges associated with maintaining regulatory compliance are certainly increasing as the amount of healthcare data organizations interact with spirals upward and new laws like the HITECH Act are enacted," said Neil Araujo, CEO of Autonomy iManage. "Autonomy takes a visionary approach to helping our customers solve these problems - by delivering a unique, meaning-based platform that automatically understands and acts on information. These new capabilities are the first in the industry to address a pressing issue that law firms, accounting firms, and government institutions are dealing with right now."
