AUTONOMY RANKED AS ONE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST SOFTWARE COMPANIES BY SOFTWARE MAGAZINE

Company Recognized by the Publication for Outstanding Financial Performance for the Tenth Consecutive Year

Cambridge, UK and SAN FRANCISCO - Sept. 21, 2009 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Software Magazine has named it one of the world's largest software companies in 2009 in the publication's 27th Annual Software 500 ranking of the world's largest software and service providers. This marks the tenth consecutive year that Autonomy has been recognized by the publication. The "Software 500" is currently featured on the publication's web site, www.softwaremag.com.

"The 2009 Software 500 results show that revenue growth in the software and services industry was healthy," says John P Desmond, editor of Software Magazine and Softwaremag.com. "The Software 500 helps CIOs, senior IT managers and IT staff create the short list of business partners. It is a quick reference of vendor viability. Autonomy has continuously achieved outstanding financial performance in a challenging economic climate, and we are pleased to recognize it once again in our Software 500 ranking."

The Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking of the world's largest software and services suppliers targeting medium to large enterprises, their IT professionals, software developers and business managers involved in software and services purchasing. The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2008. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training and software-related services and consulting. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co. and posted at www.softwaremag.com, as well as from public documents.

"We are pleased to be recognized by Software Magazine for the tenth consecutive year," said Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "Autonomy's Meaning Based Computing solutions deliver strategic value to both public and private organizations around the world by enabling computers to understand the relationships that exist between disparate pieces of information and perform sophisticated analysis operations with real business value, automatically and in real-time. With Autonomy, organizations are able to maximize the value of information and mitigate its associated risks."
