PBS AFFILIATE SELECTS AUTONOMY TO ENHANCE VIDEO ARCHIVE
WHRO Embraces Meaning-Based Technologies to Manage More than 40 Years of Rich Media Assets
Cambridge, UK and SAN FRANCISCO - May 13, 2009 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that WHRO, a regional media company and PBS affiliate that promotes education, culture and citizenship to the citizens of Hampton Roads, Virginia, has selected Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) and Rich Media Management solutions to manage and retrieve its massive volume of video archives. After extensive evaluation of the available rich media management solutions in the market, WHRO selected Autonomy Virage's VS Archive solution for its ability to form a conceptual understanding of the meaning of all its rich media assets, as well as the product's intuitive user interface and advanced face recognition and speech-to-text features.
Built upon Autonomy's world-leading meaning-based technology, the Virage VS Archive solution will manage and retrieve all of WHRO's videoclassroom.org content, which is offered to 18 of the local school districts with more than 250,000 students. WHRO also plans to implement the Autonomy solution internally to help manage and retrieve more than 40 years worth of rich media assets that it has developed. With Autonomy, WHRO will be able to automatically organize and categorize large volumes of multi-media content, eliminating the cost and time associated with the manual aggregation and meta-tagging of files.
"We reviewed many products in our search for a rich media content management system," said Bert Schmidt, CEO of WHRO. "Autonomy Virage was the only solution that offers meaning-based search along with the ability to modify user interface, allowing for multiple levels of search. These features greatly exceeded the other products' capabilities. We believe that the Autonomy Virage solution is best suited for our current and future business needs."
Autonomy Virage's VS Archive is a rich media management solution that efficiently stores, categorizes, manages, retrieves, and distributes video, audio, and other rich media content within the enterprise. Powered by Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL), VS Archive provides users with the ability to not only search videos and audio streams by concept, key frame, speaker, face and more, it also provides them with real time alerts to conceptually relevant rich media assets in a single, intuitive user interface. VS Archive is the only technology available on the market today that allows users to search foreign multimedia in their native language, while automatically generating real-time translations of the audio streams.
"WHRO is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the citizens in the communities it serves by responding to their need to be engaged, educated, entertained and enlightened. It is a premier provider of products and services for educators and life long learners using the best technology available," said Marc Geall, CEO of Autonomy Virage. "We are pleased to be part of WHRO's effort in providing quality programming and services for its television and radio audiences."
WHRO will be showcasing the new PBS' EDCAR with the Autonomy VS Archive solution integrated at the PBS Showcase on May 13, 2009. In addition, it will be launching the beta version of its new videoclassroom.org site powered by Autonomy in the summer of 2009.
