AUTONOMY CORPORATION PLC APPOINTS NON-EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

CAMBRIDGE, England - 3 April 2009 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced the appointment of Robert S Webb QC (Queen's Counsel) as its Non-Executive Chairman. Mr Webb will take up his role on 1 May 2009.

From 1998 through the end of March 2009 Mr Webb served as General Counsel at British Airways, and in that role was responsible for the legal function with oversight of Government and Industry Affairs, Safety and Security, Risk Management, Business Continuity and British Airways Health Services, and was also variously responsible for Environmental Policy and Corporate Responsibility.

Prior to joining British Airways Mr Webb was called to The Bar, Inner Temple 1971, and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1988. Mr Webb served as Head of Chambers, 5 Bell Yard, London, from 1988 to 1998; Recorder of the Crown Court from 1993 to 1998; Bencher, Inner Temple 1997; and as Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Bar Council 1997/8.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Michael Lynch, Autonomy's Chief Executive Officer, said today: "We are very pleased that Rob will be joining the Autonomy board. He has strong experience of plc and non-plc Boards and his experience in litigation, regulatory and compliance issues is directly relevant to our current commercial focus. He is an excellent addition to the Board with skill-sets that are highly complimentary to our other non-executive board members. We look forward to working with him."

Mr Webb's other current engagements include: Non Executive Director of the London Stock Exchange since 2001, where he serves as Chair of the Remuneration Committee; Non Executive Director of the BBC since 2007, where he serves as Chair of the Fair Trading Committee; Non Executive Director of Hakluyt, a private business research company, since 2005, where he serves as Chair of the Remuneration Committee; and Non Executive Director of Argent Group Limited, a property company, since April 2009.

Mr Webb previously served as a Non Executive Director of Air Mauritius from 1999 to 2004; as a Trustee of the British Airways Pension Fund from 2000 to 2002; and as a Non-Executive Director of Speedbird Insurance Company (Bermuda) Ltd from 2002 to 2004.

Prior to Mr Webb's appointment, the chair for board meetings rotated amongst current non-executive directors. Autonomy confirms that there are no matters requiring disclosure in relation to paragraphs 9.6.13 (1) to (6) of the Listing Rules of the UK Listing Authority.
