AUTONOMY UNVEILS "CONTROLPOINT FOR MULTIMEDIA" SOLUTION FOR MICROSOFT CUSTOMERS

Enables SharePoint Server's Customers to Harness the True Value of Rich Media

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, Calif. - Feb. 24, 2009 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today unveiled "ControlPoint for Multimedia", the industry's first solution that enables global customers using the Microsoft SharePoint Server (MOSS) to harness the true value of their rich media assets. Powered by Autonomy's unique Meaning Based Computing technology, Autonomy's ControlPoint for Multimedia uses an advanced conceptual approach to analyze and retrieve the rich media content within MOSS, without relying solely on the manual tagging of metadata. Users are presented with the most relevant content, both textual and non-textual, that is conceptually related to the selected rich media file in an intuitive interface.

The exponential growth of rich media content, such as online videos, podcasts and VoIP recordings, has led to the proliferation of unstructured information in the enterprise. The proper management of these valuable yet unwieldy assets requires a sophisticated multimedia technology that can analyze the content beyond keywords and metadata. For knowledge enrichment and increasingly for the purposes of eDiscovery, the ability to de-duplicate, cluster, and retrieve rich media content in an automated fashion not only dramatically increases employee productivity and significantly reduces cost, but it also helps businesses comply with the exacting demands of new eDiscovery regulations.

"Rich media has become a critical information resource for the enterprise," said Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "With Autonomy's ControlPoint for Multimedia, organizations can rein-in control of MOSS' rich media content and comply with eDiscovery regulations using automated, advanced analytics while at the same time avoiding the costly and protracted labor of adding metatags. By enabling full multimedia search and analysis for unified messaging, information management and eDiscovery, Autonomy enables organizations to transform the Microsoft system into a multimedia content management system."

Autonomy ControlPoint for Multimedia is compatible with rich media formats, such as those used in broadcast, video conferencing, VOIP, CCTV, and customer service interactions. Using Autonomy's patented speaker independent technology, Autonomy ControlPoint for Multimedia enables live or recorded speech to be processed, edited, searched, and hyperlinked as freely as text. Users have the ability to combine conceptual ideas and search phrases with metadata such as date, speaker, inbound/outbound, duration and emotion to quickly cull the most likely content for further processing. A wide range of visualization tools help users categorize files and discern the range of subjects covered by rich media files. Autonomy ControlPoint for Multimedia recognizes speakers in rich media files, thus empowering users to quickly contextualize the relevancy and the importance of the files.

Autonomy ControlPoint for Multimedia seamlessly integrates with MOSS to deliver:

Encoding and indexing of rich media content, automatically creating insightful metadata, and the ability to manage, repurpose and archive digital assets.
Audio, video, email and chat to be indexed, searched and cross-referenced alongside other data formats.
Automatic clustering functionality for identifying duplicate and near-duplicate rich media files.
Unrivalled accuracy by understanding words in context and retrieval of information according to its meaning, thereby distinguishing homophones.
Use of both phonetic and conceptual approaches to offer unique high-level functions, including automatic categorization.
High end analytical tools for scene analysis, speaker and audio segmentation, speaker recognition and classification, and audio/text synchronization.
Robust workflow for managing rich media content.
Support of a wide range of languages, including those that require multi-byte encoding capabilities, such as Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Russian, as well as single-byte European languages such as English, French and Spanish.
