CITY OF CHICAGO ELECTION BOARD USED AUTONOMY TO PROCESS RECORD VOTER REGISTRATIONS

Information Capture Solution Significantly Reduced Data Entry Costs and Election Forms' Processing Time; Delivered More Efficient Voting Processes

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, Calif. - Nov. 11, 2008 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that the Board of Election Commissioners for the City of Chicago (the Election Board) has used Autonomy's information capture solution to streamline the processing of record voter registration forms for the Presidential General Election. The Election Board is responsible for conducting Federal, State and local elections within its jurisdiction, which has more than approximately 1.4 million registered voters.

"In our 111-year history prior to this year's primary, we never had a rush of 31,000 registrations in a week," said Chicago Election Board Chairman Langdon D. Neal. "Then, just before the deadline for this Fall's Election, we took in an astounding 90,000 voter registration forms in one week. All of the voters were on the rolls ready to go - including a special mailing to all of those who needed to show identification."

Autonomy's information capture solution has enabled the Election Board to quickly and easily capture and convert all of its elections-related paper-based forms, such as Voter Registration Forms and Application for Ballot, into digital data. "The Application for Ballot" forms are designed to capture each voter's personal information, his/her signature, as well as check for missing signatures and errors in party selection. With Autonomy, the Election Board has immediately realized significant business benefits, including streamlining internal operational processes; accelerating delivery of data and documents to backend IT infrastructure; reducing administrative costs; and eliminating data entry errors.

"With the record voter registrations, the volume of data processing placed considerable strain on our staff and required us to run multiple shifts for data entry and use temporary workers to be sure that these new voters were in the system for Early Voting and Absentee Voting. We view the Autonomy solution as a key part of our initiative to reduce costs and increase flexibility to assign staff to other key voter-services," Neal continued.

Within three days of implementing the Autonomy solution, the Election Board completed training on the new software, and scanned and processed more than 60,000 "Application for Ballot" forms in one evening. The Election Board's previous manual process would have required six staff members spending approximately six weeks to process these forms.

"We have seen great savings from our implementation of TeleForm and the benefits extend beyond cost savings," Neal said. "The reduction in the data entry burden has also increased the accuracy of our records and allowed us to deliver a seamless voter registration process."

"With this exciting Presidential Election, the Election Board experienced an overwhelming quantity of paper-based forms," said Sean Sullivan, CEO of Autonomy Cardiff. "We are very pleased that the Autonomy solution is a key component of the Election Board's initiative to reduce operational cost and streamline the accuracy and availability of critical voter information."

The Cardiff Intelligent Document suite automates all aspects of both paper-based and Web-based document-centric business processes. It delivers significant cost reduction, accelerated processes and an improved customer experience by taking formerly static documents and enabling them to 'process themselves' through the introduction of embedded intelligence.
