AUTONOMY ADVANCES LEGAL HOLD WITH AUTOMATED IDENTIFICATION, NOTIFICATION, PRESERVATION AND COLLECTION

Spans Laptops, Desktops and Enterprise Data Repositories; Supports More than 100 Languages and 1,000 File Formats to Ensure Organizational Compliance

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, Calif. - Oct. 30, 2008 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today unveiled the world's most advanced Legal Hold solution that fully automates the multi-faceted process necessary to preserve Electronically Stored Information (ESI) across laptops, desktops and all enterprise data sources. It is the only legal hold solution to uniquely combine and automate custodian notification and management with ESI identification, preservation and collection - all on a single platform, significantly reducing the risks and costs associated with the legal hold process and the duty to preserve by extending an organization's control of its information to the edge of the network. Autonomy's Legal Hold solution supports more languages and file formats than any of the available solutions in the market.

Recent cases make it clear that a hold notice alone does not meet the preservation obligation. The courts have held that the organization must do more than notify custodians of the legal hold and expect them to comply; it must take affirmative steps to identify and preserve potentially relevant data.

"Many organizations have misconceptions that email archiving solutions can solve their legal hold challenges. It is important to recognize that email is not everything and archiving is not legal hold," said Vivian Tero, program manager, Compliance Infrastructure at IDC. "In light of the FRCP amendments, it is critical for organizations to implement a legal hold solution, like Autonomy, that can manage the entire legal hold process, including cases, custodians, notifications, acknowledgements, preservation, and collections."

Unlike other legal hold point solutions, Autonomy's legal hold solution offers a legally defensible process that combines automated ESI identification, preservation, and collection with notification and interview management, and the ability to automatically suggest custodians and data sources. Additionally, unlike stand-alone preservation and collection solutions, which require persistent connections to laptops and desktops for search, identification, and collection, Autonomy's solution is geared towards global enterprise use by using policies to drive preservation in-place and offline collections with an industry first "Preserve-In-Place" capability for laptops and desktops, in addition to enterprise data sources. Autonomy applies intelligent hold policies against an enterprise's entire corpus of data, while allowing for multiple forensically sound collection options.

Built on Autonomy's highly scalable and secure platform, the Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL), Autonomy's Legal Hold is the only solution that applies legal hold policies using Meaning Based Computing to determine the relevancy of data to litigation. It provides automatic and on-going preservation of information using the full array of keyword and Boolean rules, metadata and conceptual search to uniquely cull down data volumes by intelligently identifying potentially relevant ESI subject to the duty to preserve and under legal hold. Autonomy's solution is fully auditable, easy to use, and can quickly implement the workflow and processes necessary to demonstrate a good faith effort to meet the preservation obligation.

"With a dramatic increase in the number of securities lawsuits and investigations as a result of the current financial crisis, properly managing the legal hold process in a global enterprise with multiple divisions is incredibly complex," said Jack Halprin, Esq., Autonomy's vice president of eDiscovery and Compliance and industry veteran. "Autonomy's Legal Hold solution automates the process of identifying and preserving relevant ESI without custodian intervention and is the only solution on the market to offer legally defensible, FRCP-compliant collection options. Additionally, the integrated IDOL technology scales to the largest of organizations, combining conceptual and keyword search to reduce risk and ensure that only potentially relevant ESI is preserved."

Autonomy's Enterprise Legal Hold solution offers unique capabilities, including:

Automated Preservation and Collection - The only legal hold solution with automated preservation and multiple forensically sound collection options, including automated laptop, desktop and enterprise repository collections and deep-dive forensics collections.
Exclusive Preserve-in-Place Capability - An industry first ability to preserve relevant ESI in-place on desktops, laptops in addition to data sources throughout the enterprise.
Simultaneous Hold Notification and ESI Preservation - Eliminate the time lag between notification and preservation to reduce the risk of spoliation.
Automated Custodian Identification and Data Mapping - Integrates with Active Directory, HR and asset management systems, tracks custodian interview responses, and automatically matches criteria against operational systems to automate custodian identification and data mapping.
Automated Notification Workflows, Interviews and Confirmation Management - Includes built-in, fully customizable notification templates and interview forms and the ability to trigger automated secondary workflows or interviews based on custodian responses.
Real-time Audits and Reports - The intuitive central dashboard allows users to maintain full visibility into the ongoing status of the case with real-time audits and reports.
Seamless connectivity with Autonomy's Early Case Assessment and Introspect review platform - The only legal hold solution to offer seamless connection and transfer of data between the industry leading early case assessment and review platforms to complete an end-to-end eDiscovery process.
