AUTONOMY ENTERS THE EUROPEAN PRIVATE EQUITY AND VENTURE CAPITAL ASSOCIATION'S "HALL OF FAME"

Receives Prestigious Accolade for Growing from a Start-Up to a One Billion Dollar Company in Ten Years or Less

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, Calif. - October 21, 2008 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise today announced that it has entered the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association's (EVCA) "Hall of Fame" for being one of the rare European technology companies to grow from a start-up to a $1 billion dollar company in 10 years or less. Autonomy was recently presented with the prestigious award at the EVCA Venture Capital Forum, a yearly meeting for top venture technology professionals, attended by 400 participants from all over Europe.

With more than 1,300 members in Europe, EVCA has become the prime source for information about the venture capital and private equity industry. Since its launch in 1983, EVCA's role has been to represent the interests of the industry to regulators and standard setters. The organization has been collecting information since its launch, resulting in comprehensive data going back to 1984. It continuously monitors research conducted by third parties, to enhance the provision of up-to-date information on various market segments and regions.

"EVCA's Hall of Fame was created to highlight the success of technologies from European companies," said Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "I am delighted that Autonomy has been recognized by this prestigious organization. Autonomy's Meaning Based Computing has revolutionized the way people interact with information and computers, and we have continued to grow from strength to strength since inception."

Founded in 1996 and utilizing a unique combination of technologies borne out of research at Cambridge University, Autonomy has established itself as the market leader in high-end information processing with its Meaning Based Computing movement. Today, the company is the second largest pure software company in Europe. Autonomy recently announced its record-breaking third quarter and nine month 2008 financial results which were significantly ahead of consensus estimates. Revenues for the nine months ended September 30, 2008 were $357.8 million, up 57% from the same period in 2007. Its 35 consecutive quarters of profitability have strengthened Autonomy's place as the undisputed leader in pan-enterprise search and Meaning Based Computing.
