AUTONOMY RANKED IN TOP 10 IN SOFTWARE MAGAZINE'S 25TH ANNUAL SOFTWARE 500'S GROWTH CHART

Software Magazine Ranks Autonomy as one of the World's Largest Software Companies for Eighth Consecutive Year

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, CA. - October 17, 2007 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that it has been named the growth leader among companies in the $100 million to $1 billion revenue range, in Software Magazine's 25th Annual Software 500 ranking of the world's largest software and service providers. This marks the eighth consecutive year that Autonomy has been recognized by the publication. The "Software 500" is currently featured on the publication's Web site (www.softwaremag.com).

"The 2007 Software 500 results show that growth in the software and services industry was healthy from 2006 to 2007, the ranking year," says John P. Desmond, editor of Software Magazine and Softwaremag.com. "The Software 500 helps CIOs, senior IT managers and IT staff to create the short list of business partners. It is a quick reference of vendor viability. We are pleased to recognize Autonomy for its strong growth rate of 161 percent in 2006. The company has continuously achieved outstanding financial performance in a challenging market."

The Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking of the world's largest software and services suppliers targeting medium to large enterprises, their IT professionals, software developers and business managers involved in software and services purchasing. The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2006. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training and software-related services and consulting. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business, such as hardware. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co. and posted at www.Softwaremag.com, as well as from public documents.

"The trend to attempt to unite all disparate systems and information regardless of format or location is reaching primetime status, and companies are rapidly standardizing on Autonomy's Meaning-Based Computing platform, IDOL, to process all enterprise information," said Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "Given a market plagued with vendor instability and merger and acquisition activity, Autonomy's rapid and persistent growth, its unrivalled financial performance, and the fact that we own all our technologies continue to position us as the vendor and partner of choice."

Autonomy's strategic value in the enterprise has risen with the proliferation of unstructured information and with changes in regulatory requirements. Autonomy's Meaning-Based Computing enables computers to understand the relationships that exist between disparate pieces of information and perform sophisticated analysis operations with real business value, automatically and in real-time. Meaning-Based Computing extends far beyond traditional methods such as keyword search which simply allow users to find and retrieve data. Keyword search engines for example cannot comprehend the meaning of information; these products were developed simply to find documents in which a word occurs.

Autonomy delivers a wide range of powerful enterprise applications across every industry sector, helping businesses drive efficiency, productivity and profitability - maximizing the value of information and mitigating its associated risks. Flexibility, security and scalability coupled with its vast array of superior functionality, allows Autonomy to deliver a horizontal technology that is used to generate new revenue streams and maintain competitive advantage across all industries and vertical markets including financial services, government, media, e-commerce, and pharmaceutical industries.
