PETCO SELECTS AUTONOMY CARDIFF TO AUTOMATE NEW EMPLOYEE ONBOARDING

Intelligent Document Solution Reduces Processing Time and Costs At Leading Retail Store

San Diego, Calif. - August 13, 2007 - Cardiff, a division of Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L) and leading provider of intelligent document solutions, today announced that PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc., has selected Autonomy Cardiff's Intelligent Document solution to streamline its new employee onboarding process. With the Autonomy Cardiff solution, PETCO is now able to automate its manual processes and eliminate the need for printing, mailing and storage of employee data, leading to significant cost savings and decrease in lag times. With Cardiff, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of employees onboarded quickly and correctly, according to the compliance guidelines set out by the company.

Retail organizations have unique challenges associated with high turnover and seasonal employment patterns. A manually-based hiring process can result in paperwork being mishandled, missing or incomplete. PETCO addresses these challenges by automating its entire employee onboarding process with Cardiff LiquidOffice, a cornerstone of Cardiff's Intelligent Document solution.

With LiquidOffice, PETCO is now able to collect employee information online at each of its stores. PETCO's onboarding processes are defined, automated and managed within the Cardiff solution to ensure rapid processing and complete accuracy, including the creation of a custom employment package tailored to each individual employee. In addition, Cardiff handles the seamless exchange and updating of information to PETCO's IT infrastructure systems, including PeopleSoft, Oracle, Acorde, First Advantage and many others.

"At PETCO, our customers' needs are as diverse and individual as their pets. Our new associates must be productive as soon as possible in order to give our customers the best possible service," said Tina Asaro, PETCO's HRIS manager. "As our organization grew, we realized that our associate onboarding process was becoming a bottleneck that affected many parts of our business. We needed a solution that could streamline our distributed stores, employment patterns and existing business systems. The Cardiff solution not only provides us with all of the functionality we needed but also the flexibility to rapidly adapt to changes in our business," Asaro added.

Unique to Cardiff, knowledge of PETCO's business rules, processes and business systems are built directly into the forms, documents and packets within the Cardiff solution. This ensures that no matter where a document is in the process, the document itself knows where to go to next based on the information that it contains. Data errors and non-compliance are automatically and immediately detected while the applicants, employees and managers are filling out the forms and documents, significantly reducing delays due to exception handling and after-the-fact corrections. In addition, Cardiff's ability to automatically build, process and manage complete packages of forms and documents that are specific to each individual eliminates the "black hole" effect experienced by many Human Resources departments as packages wait in folders on desks, completely hidden from management. All forms, documents and packages are also visible at all time to PETCO's management using Cardiff's built-in reporting and auditing tools.

"Armed with a checklist, paper file folders, express mail envelopes and a printer, the processes in most Human Resources departments interact with critical line-of-business systems, regulatory compliance and a company's human capital in a completely ad-hoc manner," says Mark Seamans, chief executive officer of Cardiff. "We are excited to see that PETCO has chosen to streamline its employment processes with Cardiff. The benefits of automating its processes with Cardiff's Intelligent Documents solution are significant and we are certain that it will help PETCO to grow its leadership position in the retail market."
