AUTONOMY PLAYS VITAL ROLE IN SUCCESS OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE'S E-DIPLOMACY PROJECT

Meaning-Based Computing Technology Connects the State Department to Mission-Critical Intelligence

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, Calif. - July 11th, 2007 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that the U.S. State Department has integrated its IDOL enterprise infrastructure software into the State's iNet portal. This portal, which connects over 500 State Department agencies' Web sites and more than 40,000 users from over 250 locations around the world, is a vital part of the State Department's eDiplomacy project aimed at facilitating cross-agency collaboration and information sharing among the State agencies and its personnel across the world. Autonomy partner, MicroLink, was the systems integrator for the project.

The State Department believes that effective cross-agency collaboration and information sharing are vital in its ongoing effort to fight terrorism, which prompted the creation of the Office of eDiplomacy in 2002. The eDiplomacy project is viewed by the Department as a strategic project that has successfully "connected the dots".

Autonomy IDOL is the only platform that offers users the ability to conduct plain language queries using concept-based search. With the Autonomy technology, the Department of State is able to quickly and accurately index and search information from its numerous intranet sites, OpenNet (iNet) and extranet sites. Its powerful clustering and categorization features mean that users obtain information in its original form, and the portal does not have to contend with costly re-formatting or storage of data. U.S. Diplomats officials in State Department missions across the world now have mission-critical information readily available on their desktops.

With an effective knowledge management framework, the U.S. Department of State has improved its ability to understand and lead foreign policy community at home and abroad.

Autonomy IDOL allows the U.S. Department of State to incorporate QuickLinks to allow fast access to specific data sources, including the Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Web site. It also enables the State Department to implement updates to the search results based on users' feedback, including, for example, which user's search queries are returning no results.

Going forward, the State Department plans to implement single sign-on security to be followed by personalization features, including agents, profiling and alerting. It will also increase the number of its content repositories to meet the ever-growing increase in content on its Web sites.

"The U.S. State Department has harnessed the capabilities of Autonomy IDOL in a way that can serve as a model for the deployment of the Autonomy product," said Dr Mike Lynch, Autonomy's chief executive officer. "We are pleased that our product has helped to foster cross-agency collaboration, as well as linking hundreds and thousands of government officials to key intelligence."
