New Zealand Survey Reveals Need to Streamline Document Management Requirements

Email Management and Centralisation of Unstructured Information also Loom as Key Issues

SYDNEY - April 2, 2007 - More than half of New Zealand organisations agree that information workers would comply with document profiling, storage and retention policies if the requirements were made easier, according to a New Zealand survey conducted by Interwoven, Inc., (NASDAQ: IWOV), a global leader in content management solutions.

Approximately 52 per cent of respondents surveyed by Interwoven in New Zealand agreed that streamlining the document lifecycle – which covers the creation, management, archiving and disposal of documents – would result in increased levels of compliance. No organisations disagreed with the statement.

In addition, 82 per cent of respondents surveyed by Interwoven described centralised control over unstructured information, such as emails, documents and contracts relating to specific projects, as one of their short-term goals. Almost half of respondents identified a need for 'containers' to centralise this unstructured data, the Interwoven survey found.

"The legal sector has traditionally led the market in their use of centralised containers to store all documents that relate to a specific matter. Leveraging our global leadership in this space, we are now actively re-applying the concept – also known as a workspace – across a broader range of vertical markets in New Zealand, including financial services and government agencies," said Chris Lynch, Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at Interwoven.

Other key findings:

  • Email volumes in New Zealand organisations continue to grow unabated, with 92 per cent of respondents indicating that up to three quarters of their documents are now emails.

*Email management is the top focus among Auckland organisations, with 73 per cent currently involved in specific projects. In contrast, 66 per cent of Wellington-based organisations surveyed said facilitating collaboration is their key focus.

The survey was conducted during a series of Interwoven seminars held in Auckland and Wellington in March 2007.
