Frost & Sullivan Acknowledges Virage's Contribution to the Advancement of Video Surveillance Technology
Palo Alto, Calif. - 13th February 2007 - Frost & Sullivan selected Virage, a wholly owned subsidiary of Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L) and leading supplier of intelligent video analytics, as the recipient of the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Award for Excellence in Technology for its outstanding efforts in developing an advanced suite of video surveillance software.
Virage has successfully developed a complete surveillance solution by bringing together complimentary technologies from multimedia, security and infrastructure specialists. The company has not only developed a next-generation range of stand-alone surveillance products but a centralized security platform which automates the capture and analysis of all forms of data and conceptually cross-references information to discover trends and deliver targeted, real-time alerts to security officers.
Frost & Sullivan's award recognizes that combining these technologies has been pivotal for the development of high-performance advanced recording and data processing software, which forms the backbone of video surveillance systems and has the potential to bring about significant improvements in analysis time and quality.
"With its suite of powerful technologies, Virage is able to meet a wide range of security and surveillance applications ranging from highly complex command and control center deployments to small-scale security functions," says Frost & Sullivan research analyst Ashwini Meena. "The application areas for Virage's advanced solutions range include highly demanding security scenarios such as government buildings, border controls, airports, seaports, transport networks, and metropolitan centers."
Virage's strong intellectual property base in surveillance domain technology is evident in its substantial portfolio of surveillance solutions, covering diverse segments such as electronic point-of-sale monitoring (EPOS), digital/network video recording, intelligent scene analysis, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), and container surveillance and management. Each application can be deployed individually to meet a specific requirement, or can be seamlessly integrated with Virage's unique Command and Control platform to create a centralized, automated security infrastructure.
In 2003, Virage became part of the Autonomy Group and extended its lead in rich media management technology through the integration of Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL), a sophisticated platform for processing unstructured information. The acquisition of Neurodynamics followed in 2005 and enabled the company to fully integrate advanced recognition systems with the Virage product range.
This combination of technologies has made it possible to add significant intelligence to surveillance systems by enabling conceptual and contextual analysis of data whatever its format. Moreover, it provides a vast functionality set to harness the value of information, such as automatic hyperlinking to relevant content, clustering, profiling and alerting.
"Virage's strong commitment to R&D, and in particular, its outstanding level of technology development has the potential to make a significant impact on the performance levels of various security and surveillance applications," notes Meena. "As the surveillance industry moves toward more advanced, integrated intelligence, processing power and image analysis, technological solutions such as Virage's will become even more valuable."
Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to the company that has pioneered the development and introduction of an innovative technology; a technology that has either impacted or has the potential to impact several market sectors. The Award recognizes a company's successful technology development that is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture.
