AUTONOMY WINS INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION INDUSTRY AWARD FOR WORK WITH THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES (UK)

TNA Global Search, powered by Autonomy, wins Best User Experience Award, 2006

Cambridge, UK and San Francisco, Calif. - November 30th 2006 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that their project with The National Archives, TNA Global Search, has won the Best User Experience category at the International Information Industry Awards. The award recognises any project or service that has shown outstanding innovation in improving the user experience. The Information Industry Awards are hosted by Online Information 2006 and Information World Review to recognise the achievements of information teams, information and content management projects, vendors and individual information professionals.

One of the central components of The National Archives' vision is to bring history to life for everyone. TNA Global Search is an essential component of The National Archives' project to digitise one of the largest collections in the world, and make 1000 years of British history available online. Autonomy's revolutionary, meaning-based software provides a unified enterprise platform that can simultaneously query the Archives' 30 million documents held in 11 disparate catalogues and databases.

The National Archives Director of Collections and Technology, David Thomas, commented: "The National Archives' aim is to make the information we hold across all of our websites and catalogues even more accessible, helping to bring history to life for everyone. The introduction of TNA Global Search means that users worldwide are now able to quickly and easily search through our vast catalogue of records to locate relevant information. We are delighted that TNA Global Search has been recognised for its achievements in improving user experience."

Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy Systems, commented: "It is a great honour to win this award, particularly as Autonomy's software was founded on a vision to transform the manner in which people interact with information. This award recognises that everything we do is tailored to the needs of the user, and it is entirely fitting that TNA Global Search, the project designed to make our common history more accessible, should be the winning entry."

About The National Archives

The National Archives, www.nationalarchives.gov.uk, is a government department; and also an executive agency of the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs. Over 600 staff work in Kew, in Norwich, at Admiralty Arch in central London and at the Family Records Centre in Islington. The National Archives brings together the Public Record Office, Historical Manuscripts Commission, the Office of Public Sector Information and Her Majesty's Stationery Office. See also www.opsi.gov.uk.

The National Archives is at the heart of information policy - setting standards and supporting innovation in information and records management across the UK, and providing a practical framework of best practice for opening up and encouraging the re-use of public sector information. This work helps inform today's decisions and ensure that they become tomorrow's permanent record. The National Archives is also the UK government's official archive, containing 900 years of history from Domesday Book to the present, with records ranging from parchment and paper scrolls through to recently created digital files and archived websites. Increasingly, these records are being put online, making them universally accessible.

The vision of The National Archives is to:

  • Lead and transform information management
  • Guarantee the survival of today's information for tomorrow
  • Bring history to life for everyone
