AUTONOMY POWERED JOHNSTON PRESS WEBSITES TRIUMPHANT AT THE NEWSPAPER SOCIETY AWARDS

Johnston Press Digital wins more industry recognition for their 280+ news websites increasing their awards total to over 20

Cambridge, UK - November 9th, 2006 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Johnston Press, the UK's second largest local newspaper publisher, has been awarded Best Online Classified Section at the Newspaper Society Awards and came highly commended for their Local Pages Today site. In total, Johnston Press has now been commended by over 20 award committees for their 280+ local websites, visited by 2.5 million unique users.

Johnston Press licenses Autonomy's meaning-based computing software to power all of their local websites and have seen site traffic increase by more than 100% since implementation. Approximately 45,000 searches are performed each week over 1.2 million articles, with more than 1,000 new editorial articles added daily and links also provided to partner and other newspaper sites. Autonomy's technology goes beyond mere search and is in development to profile users, logging the context of each article they read so that in addition to standard newsletter content, personalised detail can be pushed to them such as targeted headlines. In addition, Autonomy's technology will soon be used to cluster blogs to form communities of interest as well as playing a key role in the award-wining www.JobsToday.co.uk site which lists 10,000+ local jobs a week from regional press.

Johnston Press has already experienced significant return on investment since implementing Autonomy. An example is on www.DaysOutUK.com, where Autonomy powers the main "find a day out feature", which experienced a doubling in site traffic during the first two months post implementation. The user experience has also been significantly enhanced which has encouraged customer loyalty.

"Advanced features which we would not have thought cost effective or even possible before discovering Autonomy are now a reality", commented Dave Martin, responsible for online development, at Johnston Press, "Site traffic, revenues and customer loyalty have all increased on our sites and we plan to build upon this success in the future by incorporating Autonomy's voice and video processing capabilities."

Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy, commented: "We are delighted that Johnston Press' innovative approach to local news reporting has received more industry recognition and we look forward to working with Johnston Press as they continue to look for new ways to interact and bring the news to their readers."
