ZANTAZ Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation, Thought Leadership, and Market Dominance

Customer-Driven Solutions, New Technologies Drive Continued Growth and Success

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Nov. 7, 2006 - ZANTAZ, Inc., the global leader in content archiving and electronic discovery solutions, marks its 10th anniversary this month. Over the years, ZANTAZ' strategy has been to both develop and acquire innovative technologies that allow companies to archive, manage and retrieve their electronic content - including email, files and other electronic records - to quickly respond to corporate governance, knowledge management, and regulatory and legal requirements. As a result, ZANTAZ counts among its customers many of the Fortune 500 and has been the revenue market share leader for the last three years.

"Our focus on customers and our deep knowledge of the storage, regulatory and legal issues related to managing their electronic content continue to fuel our growth," said ZANTAZ President and CEO Steve King, who recently received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2006 Award in the Business Services category in the Northern California region. "Today more than ever, enterprises are looking to ZANTAZ and our proven technologies to solve their increasingly complex content archiving and discovery challenges."

King continues, "We've clearly demonstrated our technology leadership and our commitment to customers as validated by our leadership position in IDC's recent Worldwide Email Archiving Applications Forecast, and top ranking in the Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery Survey. And with the demand for content archiving and electronic discovery continuing to skyrocket, we see a tremendous opportunity for ZANTAZ to further increase revenue and dominate market share."

Founded in 1996, ZANTAZ developed the first on-demand, highly scalable compliance archiving solution, Digital Safe, introducing it to the market in early 1999. In 2003, with the market shaken by the Enron and WorldCom scandals, ZANTAZ acquired severel companies in order to leverage existing technologies to create new solutions, including the market-leading ZANTAZ Enterprise Archive Solution (EAS) and Introspect, the most scalable and efficient discovery review solution for complex litigation and compliance. Over the years, the company also built highly sophisticated data restoration capabilities that combine a highly secure and scalable infrastructure to securely restore data from a wide variety of backup media.

In 2006, ZANTAZ introduced First Archive On Demand, combining Digital Safe and ZANTAZ EAS to provide customers with the ability to deploy a combination of on-demand and on-site software solutions, giving organizations the flexibility they need to meet their specific technical and financial objectives. The company also launched First Discovery, leveraging many of its core products and competencies to offer a data collection and electronic discovery solution that automates the collection, preservation, and filtering of corporate data.

"Over the next four years, Enterprise Strategy Group estimates that organizations will archive more than 50,000 petabytes of information, increasing pressure on organizations to effectively manage their out-of-control electronic data stores," said Brian Babineau, an analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG). "Compliance, electronic discovery, and IT operational efficiencies will continue to drive the rapid growth of the content archiving market. ZANTAZ has kept its finger squarely on the pulse of the industry and as a result will continue to be an important contributor of innovative technologies and enterprise solutions."

The results of ZANTAZ' customer-driven strategy to-date have been phenomenal:

  • ZANTAZ customers include 9 of the 10 top global law firms, 11 of the Fortune 25 and 14 of the top 20 financial securities firms.
  • IDC recently named ZANTAZ the market share leader for the third year in a row. The report "Worldwide Email Archiving Applications 2006-2010 Forecast and 2005 Vendor Shares: The Evolution from Email Archiving to Unified Message Archiving Solutions," ranked ZANTAZ as the leader in the email archiving market with 26.8 percent market share, and 2004-2005 growth of 64.8 percent.
  • Deloitte & Touche USA recently named ZANTAZ to Deloitte's prestigious Technology Fast 50 Program for Silicon Valley, a ranking of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies in the area. The rankings are based on the percentage revenue growth over five years from 2001-2005. ZANTAZ experienced 3,435 percent revenue growth during that period.
  • ZANTAZ was ranked a top-five service provider and a top-five software provider in the prestigious 2006 Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery Survey. This is the second year in a row ZANTAZ has been ranked a top-five service provider.
  • ZANTAZ was recently chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the Top 100 Private Company award winners. ZANTAZ was handpicked by the AlwaysOn editorial panel based on a set of five criteria -- technology innovation, market potential, customer adoption, media buzz, and investor value creation.
  • ZANTAZ EAS, which recently won first place at the Storage Expo UK 2006 "Deal or No Deal" competition, is currently deployed by over 1.5 million users globally.
  • ZANTAZ Introspect hosting service currently hosts close to 750 million pages, which has more than doubled over the past 12 months.
  • The company's data restoration business has restored more than 100,000 tapes over the years, equaling more than five petabytes of data.
  • Today Digital Safe is protecting more than 12 billion email messages, representing more than 800 terabytes of data and growing at more than a billion messages per quarter.

As a point of comparison, a single terabyte can hold 500 million text pages, 200 full-length movies, or 1000 copies of the Encyclopedia Britannica. There are approximately 1,000 terabytes in a petabyte.

With continuing pressure on companies to improve compliance and prepare for litigation while controlling or cutting IT costs, ZANTAZ expects demand for its products to continue to increase.

"ZANTAZ will continue to drive innovation by listening to our customers and delivering products that meet their evolving needs," said King. "We expect the next 10 years to be as exciting, challenging, and successful as the last 10."
