Interwoven Announces Vision for Legal Office of the Future Based on the Microsoft Platform

Company demonstrates integrated products empowering legal professionals to increase productivity, compliance, and client satisfaction

Orlando, FL - August 22, 2006 - International Legal Technology Association's ILTA'06 Conference-Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV) today demonstrated new integrations of its solutions with Microsoft® Office 2007, SQL Server™ 2005, and Windows Vista™. Interwoven also announced its roadmap of future integrations that will enable law firms and other professional services firms to drive new levels of productivity, compliance, and client satisfaction. Since the company announced their expanded relationship with Microsoft one year ago, successes include: new integrations of Interwoven's WorkSite Engagement/Matter-Centric Collaboration solution with Microsoft Office SharePoint® Portal Server; early adoption of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 platform as part of Interwoven WorkSite; tighter technology roadmap alignment between Interwoven solutions and Microsoft Office 2007, Windows Vista, and other Microsoft products; and successful collaboration on go-to-market activities worldwide.

"We are pleased to learn about Interwoven's increasing commitment to the Microsoft platform; our mutual customers will enjoy the benefits from our continued efforts together," said Brian Zeve, Managing Director of Professional Services Industry Group of Microsoft Corporation. "In the up-coming months, we anticipate working with Interwoven to more closely align Interwoven and Microsoft product roadmaps to extend more benefits to organizations from Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Microsoft Mobile 5.0, Microsoft Windows Vista and other key Microsoft products."

The Interwoven technology roadmap is far-reaching and includes unified search, portals, information security, mobile device functions, business process automation, and additional areas, providing specific capabilities needed by attorneys and other professionals. In addition, the roadmap enables IT departments to define an information management strategy that addresses current needs and prepares them to deliver more usable, more secure, better-integrated solutions based on the Microsoft platform.

"Having two industry leaders, Microsoft and Interwoven working this closely together makes a big difference to us both operationally and strategically," said Steven L. Sommer, Chief Information Officer, Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLC., a top New York law firm. "It has enabled us to leverage our investment in the Microsoft platform and Interwoven solutions to drive greater value and enhance service for our end users and clients."

The solutions being demonstrated today at the International Legal Technology Association's annual conference include:

  • Extension of the functionalities of Interwoven WorkSite into Microsoft Office 2007 products so information workers can have seamless access to WorkSite from within the new Microsoft Office 2007 suite, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel®, Microsoft PowerPoint®, Microsoft Outlook®, and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • New out-of-the-box templates for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server that enable attorneys and other business people to quickly and easily aggregate all the information that deals with a specific matter or client regardless of where on Interwoven and Microsoft systems the information resides.
  • A host of new .NET components and web services enabling firms to easily integrate WorkSite with Windows Workflow Foundation. This capability will enable developers to more easily automate business processes that inevitably need to access content and metadata in WorkSite and Interwoven Records Manager to automate workflows and approvals, accelerate work cycles and to ensure the firm remains in consistent compliance with regulations.
  • Unified search across the Microsoft Outlook inbox, the Windows file system and Interwoven OffSite through the Microsoft search engine in Windows Vista making it easier for end users to quickly find information across systems.
  • Unified search of Interwoven WorkSite and Microsoft SharePoint content while a user is working within SharePoint.

Interwoven announced a range of future initiatives as the company continues to build on the strength of the Microsoft platform. For example, integrated information rights management (IRM) capabilities based on Microsoft IRM services will safeguard digital information stored in IRM enabled WorkSite folders from unauthorized use even if these documents are exported from WorkSite and emailed or copied. Additionally, extension of Interwoven document management, collaboration, and email management capabilities to wireless devices using Windows Mobile 5.0 will enable workers to use Interwoven's document and email management capabilities anytime, anywhere, ensuring more rapid, accurate, and consistent customer communication and higher levels of client service.

"The percentage of top legal firms that rely on Interwoven is greater than 60% and growing, and all of them use Microsoft products," said Neil Araujo, Interwoven Vice President, Marketing for Professional Services Industry Solutions. "It is only logical for two top companies serving law firms to be strategic partners, working together to improve our market-leading products and enabling our field teams to be even more effective in bringing high-value solutions to our customers. Interwoven WorkSite repository services are designed from the start to work well with Microsoft products, including email, portals, server operating systems, database software, and other Microsoft technologies, so our new capabilities with Microsoft are just the beginning of more solutions to come."
