Meridio Demonstrates Integration of Records and Digital Rights Management

Allows Corporate Records to have persistent protection outside of the control of the Records Management System.

WALTHAM, Mass., May 16, 2006 – Meridio, a leading worldwide provider of enterprise Document and Records Management (eDRM) software engineered for Microsoft .NET platforms, today announced the integration of Meridio® Records Management and Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services (RMS). The combined technologies will allow corporate records to have increased security in the management of Enterprise Records.

Windows Rights Management Services helps safeguard confidential information from unauthorized use–both online and offline, inside and outside of the firewall. Information workers can define how the recipient may use the information: open, modify, print, forward, or take other action with it.

Meridio enables enterprise customers to meet their corporate governance needs including legislation, litigation, and business process optimization goals. Meridio provides a DoD5015.2 certified secure repository for all an organization's information assets, and provides intuitive access to the information through familiar desktop applications. The Meridio repository provides a flexible, access control-based security mechanism that protects the information and ensures only authenticated individuals can access or receive it.

The Meridio integration with Windows RMS allows an organization to enhance its security by providing persistent protection to information as it is retrieved from Meridio. This persistent protection will remain with the information regardless of where the information goes, and after it has been delivered from the Meridio system.

"Our customers want to leverage their records as an information asset," said Brian Baird, CEO of Meridio. "The combination of Meridio and Windows Rights Management Services gives our customers new control over records once they leave the security of the Meridio repository."

Major features include:

Rights protected inside and outside of the Records Management System. The integration of Meridio with Windows Rights Management Services means information is protected as it leaves the Meridio system according to rights profiles configured by the Meridio System Administrator.
Persistent Protection. Regardless of what the user then does with the information, the persistent protection will mean that it is protected according to the rights profile.

"We are pleased to work with Meridio to enable Windows Rights Management Services to enhance the protection of information within the Meridio system," said Peter Houston, Senior Director of Windows Identity and Access at Microsoft Corp. "By taking advantage of the capability of Windows RMS to help protect data 'on the move,' Meridio customers can ensure regulatory compliance even if their data leaves the Meridio repository."

The Meridio integration with Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services gives an organization unique control over how its information is protected both inside and outside the organization. Administrators have the flexibility to apply rights to corporate information in a way that makes sense for the organization. Users can share information with the knowledge that it has been automatically protected.

The combined solution will be demonstrated at the annual AIIMexpo Conference and Exposition.
