Data Builder and Interwoven Team to Provide Construction Firms with a Complete Project Management Solution Based on Interwoven Document Management
Interwoven document management underpins new Electronic Project Control System, delivering significant return on investment to industry leaders including The Weitz Company
Hollywood, FL. Interwoven GearUp '06 Conference - April 4, 2006 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that it has entered into an OEM agreement with Data Builder Inc., the leader in document management software and services for general contractors and building owners, under which Data Builder is leveraging Interwoven WorkSite document management as the foundation for a new electronic project control system (e-PCS) for the construction industry. Built leveraging Interwoven document management as the foundation, Data Builder e-PCS empowers general contractors to manage documents and workflow from pre-construction through post construction, delivering an optimized client experience, improving productivity, and facilitating risk management. The OEM agreement is the latest example of an Interwoven partner leveraging the company's industry-leading document management software to deliver targeted solutions that solve specific business process challenges for vertical industries.
Interwoven's ECM solutions leadership is driven by the company's proven solutions strategy and focus on providing partners like Data Builder with industry-leading technology that they can leverage to develop highly-targeted and customized solutions that solve key market- specific business process challenges. Data Builder e-PCS leverages the full power of Interwoven document management to meet process-driven business requirements specific to the construction industry, enabling general contractors and building owners to provide an enhanced customer experience through greater productivity and operational efficiency. Data Builder e-PCS enables to eliminate the time and expense wasted through manual, paper-based processes. For example, all authorized project team members can view complete project documentation via a Web-based interface at any time, from any location, without having to travel across town for an in-person meeting. Additionally, automatic e-mail notifications alert team members when their approval is needed or when a new document is relevant to their work, increasing efficiency while also improving document tracking and collaboration. Data Builder e-PCS is available as hosted or managed service.
Early Customers See Dramatic ROI According to an analysis by Iowa State University ("Economic Analysis of the Cost Impact of Implementing an Electronic Documentation System for Construction Projects"), an e-PCS can improve the efficiency of a general contractor's building process by at least $4 to $5 million, delivering dramatic bottom-line savings in the context of the typical $100-million project. Data Builder worked with the report's authors and Interwoven to create an ROI calculator that general contractors can use to analyze their own potential returns. In the meantime, industry-leading construction companies are already using the Data Builder solution to realize dramatic gains, including The Weitz Company, The Walsh Group, Austin Commercial, Archer Western, and American Contractors Insurance Group.
The Weitz Company is already leveraging Data Builder e-PCS to improve the ability of its project teams to create, distribute, archive, and retrieve critical information. As a result, the company is improving risk management and centrally managing key documentation for both short-term and long-term requirements. Said Mark Federle, chief information officer, The Weitz Company, "Managing the information of a construction project has historically been a very manual and time consuming process. With e-PCS, Weitz has seen efficiency gains and an increase in project team effectiveness. By providing centralized, real-time management of project documentation, the solution gives us the assurance that critical information is available where we need it, when we need it."
Interwoven and Data Builder Receive Industry Accolades Data Builder e-PCS has already drawn widespread praise within the construction industry. In fact, Constructech Magazine honored The Weitz Company with its Vision Award for the company's innovative use of technology. Data Builder was also presented with an Enabler Award for delivering the software and services that helped The Weitz Company achieve its project control goals. Further, Data Builder received the Editor's Choice Best of 2005 award from Construction Executive Magazine.
Interwoven document management was also recently recognized by Forrester Research as the "Best Kept Secret in Document Management." In a recently-released report, Forrester states that the Interwoven WorkSite document management offering "should be considered in any enterprise DM evaluation, highlighting Interwoven's key strengths including: providing content-centric solutions for specific vertical markets and business processes, ease-of-use, integrated collaboration and deep integration with Microsoft desktop applications. (See press release Interwoven WorkSite Recognized by Independent Research Firm as 'The Best-Kept Secret in Document Management.)
"As litigation costs in the architectural, engineering, and construction industry continue to rise, our clients see e-PCS as an affordable solution to improve the experience of their own clients, increase operational efficiency, and reduce risk," said Scott Lombard, vice president of sales and marketing at Data Builder. "Interwoven document management is a powerful, robust, and easy-to-use platform upon which we can tailor e-PCS to meet the specific needs of our clients and the industry."
"Interwoven is dedicated to delivering a portfolio of highly-targeted solutions to address key content-centric business processes across today's enterprises and within vertical industries," said Bill Seawick, chief marketing officer, Interwoven. "Our partnership with Data Builder is strong support of this strategy and we're pleased that such an industry leader has selected Interwoven document management as its foundation of choice to deliver such an award-winning solution-especially one that is already helping general contractors dramatically improve the level of service they provide to clients through increased efficiencies."
