ZANTAZ® Announces First Discovery™, the Industry's First Single-Vendor Litigation Solution for Data Collection, Electronic Data Discovery and Litigation Support
Enables transparent collection and access to email and files in advance of litigation
Offers a proven, scalable online repository with rapid searching of large volumes of data
Allows for effective enforcement of preservation orders
LEGALTECH 2006, NEW YORK and PLEASANTON, Calif. (January 30, 2006) - ZANTAZ, Inc., the global leader in Information Retention and Discovery Management (IRDM) solutions, today announced First Discovery, a new offering consisting of proven ZANTAZ archiving solutions and discovery tools that transparently collects native email and files for selected employees across the enterprise and stores them in a searchable repository for subsequent discovery. First Discovery is a fully automated solution, saving corporate counsel time and money by making potential evidence easily and quickly available for search, review and production.
According to Fulbright and Jaworski's 2005 annual Litigation Trends Survey, 87 percent of U.S. corporations are in active litigation. The same study found electronic discovery costs average $8 million per year, making those costs the biggest litigation-related financial burden on companies with revenues of more than $100 million annually. These findings demonstrate how increasingly important it is for organizations to gain control of their information assets and effectively manage the growing costs of discovery and litigation support.
In responding to discovery requests, corporate counsel previously faced a lengthy process in which data was requested; extracted through time-consuming procedures; sent to a third-party vendor for conversion to a common format, culling and removal of duplicates; and finally put into a litigation system. With ZANTAZ First Discovery, data for specified employees most likely to be involved in a discovery request is captured transparently and seamlessly into a single, secure location. Duplicates are removed and the data is indexed and stored in an online repository in which discovery can be performed immediately. Any authorized IT or legal end-users can rapidly search large volumes of data for the relevant information. Legal counsel has immediate access to potential electronic evidence and can negotiate and narrow down the corpus of data early in the process, saving time and costs.
When ZANTAZ First Discovery is used in conjunction with ZANTAZ Introspect, customers can move from the initial request of information to production quickly and seamlessly-while reducing EDD processing costs by more than 50 percent.
"General counsel from progressive companies and their law firms seek a solution giving them greater control over the collection, searching and production of emails and associated files for litigation purposes," said Joe Romanowski, vice president of product strategy with ZANTAZ. "ZANTAZ First Discovery gives organizations improved control over their most important asset-their information-and enables attorneys to focus their time on analyzing documents versus trying to extract them."
"Organizations are looking for a proactive solution that will not only allow for quick retrieval during pending legal matters, but will also securely store their data," said George Socha of Socha Consulting. "They can benefit greatly from an automated process that keeps chain-of-custody intact, which can help lower the risks associated with data mismanagement. It also means companies stand to benefit from lower IT costs and the ability to quickly search their archives when a discovery request is received, allowing their legal counsel to more quickly size up the case and determine strategy."
ZANTAZ First Discovery features:
Access to all historical and ongoing data for specified employees
Ability to export data in PST/NSF for direct production to regulators or opposing counsel
Highly scalable and can handle hundreds of thousands of mailboxes and millions of documents in litigation
Reduces EDD costs by more than 50 percent
Enable counsel to definitively establish the trustworthiness and integrity of electronic records through a standardized and defensible electronic discovery process
Enable review by more than 100 concurrent users from multiple locations (when coupled with ZANTAZ Introspect)
Companies can also use ZANTAZ Data Restoration services to easily collect and load legacy data from tapes into ZANTAZ First Discovery for a common document repository. In addition, ZANTAZ' tape cataloging services allow customers to view tape inventory reports and select those documents that are relevant to the current litigation versus doing a full restore into ZANTAZ First Discovery-allowing for significant time and cost savings.

About IRDM
IRDM is accomplished when archiving and compliance "Information Retention" (IR) solutions are seamlessly integrated with electronic discovery and litigation support "Discovery Management" (DM) solutions. Such an approach is critical to enterprises that wish to better manage the risk of their electronic communication. To realize the full benefits of "IR," corporations need to proactively retain live data such as emails and IM, as well as archive paper and legacy data as electronic records. The next step is to utilize an integrated discovery management "DM" solution that seamlessly accepts this archived data for the purposes of searching, manipulating, and sharing this information during investigative or legal requests. Together, an IRDM solution allows large enterprises to reduce operational risks and costs, comply with legal, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements, and ultimately avoid costly reactive discovery processes and steep penalties.
