Virage Launches Automatic Real-Time EPOS Monitoring System

Protecting businesses and consumers against fraud

San Francisco, CA - December 8, 2005 - Virage, a wholly owned subsidiary of Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L) and a leading supplier and visionary in Rich Media Management technology, today announced the launch of the Neurodynamics Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) Monitoring System. Combining digital recording and transmission with advanced real-time monitoring techniques, the Neurodynamics EPOS Monitoring System has been designed to protect both retailers and consumers from fraudulent activity at the cash register. Launched ahead of the busy Christmas shopping period, the Neurodynamics EPOS Monitoring System will support nationwide efforts to reduce card fraud and employee theft.

High quality digital recording combined with synchronous capture of all data from the cash register offers retailers the most versatile and efficient remote surveillance and retail management system available. Full data capture, including time synchronized image and transaction data together with centralized reporting and management enable retailers to monitor multiple locations simultaneously and correlate results from multiple cash registers. Automatic alerting options based on predefined triggers such as transaction amount, voids, refunds or even specific product purchases provide an early warning system by alerting surveillance staff to suspicious activity at the cash register. Advanced analytics such as automatic clustering which allows supervisors to discover trends and correlations across the entire data set, provide the ability to spot unusual activity spanning multiple cash registers which may otherwise have gone undetected. In addition, conceptual analytics which use unique pattern matching techniques to detect underlying trends and anomalies in any given data set enable retailers to gain greater insight into all transaction data and corresponding video images. Where retrospective investigation is required, Neurodynamics EPOS Monitoring System supports a full range of retrieval options: supervisors may search by transaction data, video images or by using multiple parameters.

"We are pleased to launch Neurodynamics Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) Monitoring System as part of Virage Security and Surveillance," said Rowan Gardner, Virage. "According to recent national statistics, theft costs retailers around 5% of their annual turnover with 20% of theft attributable to credit card fraud and employees responsible for over 50% of shrinkage. Neurodynamics EPOS Monitoring System equips retailers with the tools they need to tackle all instances of fraud at the cash register. Unlike other vendors who simply capture transaction data and related images, Neurodynamics EPOS Monitoring System provides retailers with a real-time, conceptual understanding of all interactions at the cash register and how those transactions interrelate."
