Center For Ecology and Hydrology Chooses Verity® Ultraseek® Enterprise Search Software for its Public Web Site

Ultraseek Helps to Streamline Content from Nine Legacy Information Sources

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Nov. 28, 2005 - Verity Inc., (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise search software that enables organizations to discover, analyze and process all of the digital information within their enterprises, today announced that the Center for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) has deployed Verity Ultraseek enterprise search software to provide a comprehensive method to search for and retrieve information on its public Web site (http://www.ceh.ac.uk/). The CEH is the United Kingdom's Center of Excellence for research in the land and freshwater environmental sciences.

"Our number one goal was to find an enterprise search solution that simplified access to CEH's environmental data, which was previously scattered across nine different legacy Web sites," said Jonathan Miller, Web developer, CEH. "We found Verity Ultraseek to be extremely flexible. With Ultraseek, our team was able to index information from these disparate sources for a simple ‘one box' search with advanced capabilities."

The CEH evaluated other search solutions before selecting Verity Ultraseek, including a hardware-based search appliance, but found that Ultraseek was simpler to deploy and integrate with its current IT environment. The Verity software-based solution also offered the customization features that CEH desired, including the ability to change the look and feel of the user interface and develop additional Web services. The CEH purchased Verity Ultraseek software through Global Secure Systems (GSS), a certified Verity reseller partner based in the United Kingdom.

"The CEH's selection of Ultraseek further validates Verity's position as a leader in all segments of enterprise search," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's chief executive officer. "We continue to receive positive feedback from our new customers like the CEH who selected Ultraseek for its flexible pricing structure, lower total cost of ownership and ability to scale over time to meet growing business needs."

The CEH Web site draws 13,500 unique visitors each month - mainly researchers - and offers data focused on six areas: biodiversity, water, biogeochemistry, climate change, sustainable economies and environmental informatics.
