Hong Kong Trade Development Council Uses Verity Search Technology To Advance its Business Development Mission

Verity K2 Enterprise and Verity Federator Permit Simultaneous Search of Multiple Sites to Help Connect Global Buyers, Sellers to Hong Kong-Based Businesses

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2005-10-03 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise search software that enables organizations to discover, analyze and process all the digital information within their enterprises, today announced that its Verity® K2 Enterprise (K2E) advanced search, classification and recommendation software, and Verity® Federator, a universal platform that permits simultaneous secure search and access to multiple sites, have been selected by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC).

The TDC is the worldwide marketing arm and public service organization for thousands of Hong Kong-based manufacturers, traders and service exporters. Its activities are geared towards small and medium-sized businesses, the chief drivers of Hong Kong's trade and service industries.

"Our mission is to advance Hong Kong as a global business hub while serving as a central resource for information and services about this international free-trade city," said Chan King Wa, Hong Kong TDC's head of information technology services. "Key to these efforts is five content-rich TDC Web sites, among others in the TDC portal, that draw millions of individual visitors on a monthly basis, who come to find information or a business partner. Verity advanced enterprise search technologies allow that information to be identified quickly and accurately."

The five Web sites operated by the TDC offer information on marketing opportunities, market intelligence, how to grow small and medium-size businesses as well as a business matching service that links buyer to seller or supplier to manufacturer and an online marketplace for business-to-business transactions.

Use of the sites as information resources was not as easy or satisfying an experience prior to the deployment of Verity software. "The previous search technology that was employed by the TDC did not permit discovery of pertinent information located on the five different sites. It was also slower and delivered results of lesser relevance than we are experiencing now with Verity," Chan said.

With Verity Federator, TDC can now allow its site visitors to access all of its relevant content, regardless of which of the five Web presences users first come to visit, further improving the return on intellectual capital assets. In addition, Verity's technologies enable users to search for specific terms in both English and Chinese. Content organization across the sites is handled by Verity classification software.

The TDC opted for K2E after a series of capabilities demonstrations that showed the Verity software performed at a consistently higher level than similar offerings on the market.

"An important way that the TDC presents its 'face to the world' is through its Web sites," said Hugo Sluimer, Verity's senior vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) operations. "It is mission-critical for this information to be easily and accurately accessible, providing a competitive edge for Hong Kong businesses. We are pleased that Verity's enterprise search-related technologies help to ensure business people who visit the TDC sites discover relevant information, and more importantly, new business opportunities."
