AUTONOMY COLLABORATES WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE TO PRESERVE HISTORIC RESOURCES

A Powerful New Tool Furthers the Federal Preservation Institute's Mission

San Francisco, California - 3 October 2005 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, has been selected by the Federal Preservation Institute, an office of the US National Park Service, to power its e-learning portal. The site, www.historicpreservation.gov, utilizes Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box technology, making the latest information on historic preservation available instantly and in real-time, thus allowing federal employees to obtain the knowledge and skills that enable them to serve their agencies. In addition, users are able to access multilingual content and create profiles to network within the community. Using Autonomy's unique technology, the FPI has implemented a comprehensive, cost effective education and training program that advances the protection, enhancement and contemporary use of historic properties and objects.

The Historic Preservation Learning Portal is currently available to nearly 70 federal agencies and their employees to help comply with federal historic preservation laws. To date, it is the largest historic preservation partnership of federal agencies with funding received from 21 different federal programs. In addition to federal personnel, the public can also access the site for information regarding preservation and recovery of historic places, records and collections. Through the Portal, federal preservation professionals now have a single point of access for relevant information and training. By bringing together the Internet sites of agencies, organizations, and universities, the online gateway gives users access to internal and external repositories containing important documents, online courses and expert knowledge. The Portal has proved immensely useful in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, as individuals can locate specific information to prevent further loss or damage to historically rich buildings, museums and even cherished family archives and mementos.

Autonomy's IDOL technology provides the user with the capability to retrieve information through natural, multi-language queries. Since Autonomy software understands the conceptual idea behind any query, the Historic Preservation Learning Portal is able to provide concise and targeted information directly to the user.

Additionally, federal employees can save their searches and read summaries of complex documents. The profiling feature allows users to create an expertise community, which lets experienced professionals share their valuable knowledge with employees of distinct agencies. Besides increasing the efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out preservation laws, the portal has helped to noticeably reduce compliance and training costs.

Constance Ramirez, Director of the Federal Preservation Institute, commented: "Through the learning portal, we are able to link historic preservation information from disparate Federal agencies, including FEMA, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the National Park Service via one website. To assist with the Katrina disaster recovery, we are able to pool our informational resources easily, helping our employees and the public find information quickly to prevent further loss of priceless historical treasures."

"We are proud to assist the National Park Service and the Federal Preservation Institute in their efforts to conserve the rich history of the United States." said Stouffer Egan, Chief Executive Officer, Autonomy US. "As a result of applying Autonomy's IDOL technology to the e-learning portal, the FPI is able to connect people to the precise information they need in order to help preserve and protect our historic heritage."

About the Federal Preservation Institute

The Federal Preservation Institute is a program within the National Park Service that provides education and training in historic preservation for Federal agencies. As leaders of the national historic preservation program, Federal agencies must bring the same high quality of professional and technical knowledge and skills to historic preservation that they bring to their other responsibilities.

The Federal Preservation Institute (FPI) mission responds to the stipulations in the National Historic Preservation Act, Section 101(j), for the Secretary of the Interior to "implement a comprehensive preservation education and training program."

To accomplish this, the Institute's programs are directed towards helping every Federal agency to carry out its responsibility to integrate our national historic preservation policy and legal requirements with its own mission, the FPI provides monthly training sessions, on-line courses, and an information clearinghouse through the Historic Preservation Learning Portal, which can be accessed by anyone needing historic preservation information.
