AUTONOMY EXTENDS BEA PARTNERSHIP WITH NEW OEM AGREEMENT

Cambridge, England - 23 August 2005 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, announced today that it has entered into a new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) agreement with BEA Systems (NASDAQ: BEAS). This OEM agreement extends the longstanding partnership between BEA and Autonomy and is designed to allow BEA to embed Autonomy's IDOL 5.0, infrastructure technology which enables enterprises to perform advanced operations on unstructured, semi structured and structured information in real-time, into BEA WebLogic Portal™ 9.0.

IDOL 5.0 is the latest version of Autonomy's flagship product IDOL, featuring a number of new key developments, including among others a sentient architecture, a major new algorithm for Automatic Query Guidance, 50 new IDOL operations and improved installation facilities. This new OEM agreement builds upon Autonomy's partnership with BEA dating back to 2001.

"This new OEM agreement is an important milestone in the BEA/Autonomy partnership, said Nils Gilman, Senior Director, Product Marketing, BEA Systems. BEA recognizes that the future of enterprise portals lies far beyond simple search facilities. Autonomy's technology is designed to add significant value to BEA portal solutions through the full automation, clustering and personalization of unstructured information in the enterprise. Customers can enable their Portal users to find more information that is relevant and timely to their work using these integrated technologies. By providing relevant data on demand in the portal, businesses can help enable more efficient self-service for their enterprise."

"Autonomy's OEM business is growing at 70% year on year." said Stouffer Egan, CEO of North American operations. "In the light of this achievement, we are very pleased to announce this latest OEM agreement with BEA. Over the past four years Autonomy has built a highly successful relationship with the company, working together as OEM partners, joining the BEA portal solution program and offering products on the BEA Portlet Gallery™. The new OEM agreement enables BEA to benefit from the enhanced capabilities of Autonomy's IDOL 5.0 and helps prepare the path for a lasting partnership on future versions of BEA's products."
