Independent Research Firm Recognizes Autonomy's Collaboration with Merseybio for Boosting UK Biotech Progress
Autonomy and Merseybio Create Innovation Network to Nurture Virtual Biotech Community
Cambridge, England - 19 August 2005 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy's client, Merseybio, has been recognized by Forrester Research for excellence in the biotechnology sector. In a report published today, independent analyst research firm, Forrester Research recognizes Merseybio, a biotechnology incubator organization, for its virtual network esymbio, a collaboration center for the Merseyside biotech community. Merseybio was lauded for its Innovation Network, which serves as a conduit by which firms can share research and work together. The full report, entitled Community Collaboration Advances UK Biotech Innovation Network, is available at www.forrester.com.
In the August 2005 report, Laura Ramos, Vice President, Forrester Research, cites Merseybio and their use of Autonomy's innovative technology for creating an online network and virtual office space, where local client firms, medical centers, researchers and universities can work in partnership. The report identifies access to information and expertise as a "major roadblock" for the success of biotechnology firms, as many start-ups and smaller biotechnology firms cannot afford to develop their own IT Systems, lack tools to foster collaboration and to enable work across extended corporate or geographic boundaries. According to the report, networks such as esymbio, boost biotech productivity by fostering ideas and improving investment profiles, "put[ting] communities of smaller biotechs on an equal footing with larger, established pharma firms" and "eras[ing] international boundaries in research."
Powered by Autonomy's technology, esymbio offers biotechnology organizations a virtual office space, "where members can meet informally and share ideas asynchronously." Autonomy delivers personalized information directly to the right recipients reducing the effort teams expend to stay on top of current research." In addition, the technology helps individuals such as scientists, non-scientists, primary care physicians and clinical patients to "find each other, commonly understand and share information." The report names Merseybio's esymbio as "an example that other growing biotech communities in North Carolina, California, Ontario and central Europe should emulate to boost invention and innovation in challenging therapeutic areas like genomics and stem cell research."
"This report is a tribute to the ambition and success of Merseybio, which, applying Autonomy's IDOL technology to its discipline, assists in the rapid advancement of biotech in the UK," said Charlotte Herbert, Marketing Manager, Autonomy. "We support their continuing endeavors in bringing comprehensive knowledge about diseases and life saving medicines to the public."
Dr. Geoff Wainwright, Incubator Manager for Merseybio, also added, "By working collectively in terms of sharing research and scientific expertise, UK biotech start-ups are much better able to compete within the international arena. Autonomy's IDOL technology provides a great deal of support by fostering a virtual community and innovation network which promotes our efforts to become an emergent sector of the UK economy."
