Olympus Corporation Selects Verity Ultraseek to Enhance its Web-based Customer Service

Software-Based Enterprise Search Software Easy to Install and Use; Provides Quality Performance

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2005-08-01 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise search software that enables organizations to discover, analyze and process all the digital information within their enterprises, today announced that its powerful, downloadable Verity® Ultraseek® enterprise search software has been deployed on the heavily-trafficked Olympus Corporation's public Web site, http://www.olympus.co.jp/jp/, serving the Japanese market. The Verity software is being used to organize and locate both English and Japanese language content on the site.

Olympus, a precision technology leader, designing and delivering innovative solutions in healthcare and consumer electronics worldwide, uses its public Web site as a key vehicle for customer communication and information. Prior to the deployment of the Verity Ultraseek software, Olympus' customers found it difficult to quickly and accurately locate specific product information, such as instruction manuals and specifications, on the company's Web site. In order to help reduce the costs associated with customer care center support, Olympus deployed Verity Ultraseek software to provide customers with accurate, easy-to-use search, while maintaining low administrative costs.

"The ability of Verity Ultraseek to handle the high quantity and diverse types of documents and other unstructured content available on our Web site was important for our customer support goals," said Ichiro Furutate, Olympus' manager of web strategy group in the brand strategy department. "As we look at customer care on a global level, an additional feature that attracted us to Ultraseek was the cost benefits it offers as well as the substantial capacity to handle data volume growth."

The Japanese Olympus Web site receives more than one million unique visitors per month that generate 3.5 million monthly page views.

"Whether you have few hundred pages on your Web site or several thousand documents scattered across a global organization, Verity Ultraseek provides the right tools and management capabilities for situations that call for an enterprise-level search engine," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "Verity Ultraseek's ease of deployment, range of functionality and the avoidance of a dedicated, proprietary server, allow Olympus to focus on what's most important - serving their customers."

The nature of the precision technology products Olympus manufactures requires the production of thousands of in-depth operational manuals and specification documents. For Olympus, Verity Ultraseek provides ease of deployment, a comprehensive range of search functions and the avoidance of a dedicated, proprietary server, resulting in lower costs. For Olympus' customers, the Ultraseek software delivers higher quality, more accurate search results than alternative approaches. Ultimately, ease of use for both site administrators and end-users was a critical selection criterion.
