ember and Meridio collaborate to provide Enterprise Compliance Platform based on the Microsoft Office System

Toronto, Canada and Boston, Mass., June 16, 2005 – ember ec3 Inc. and Meridio, Inc. today announced an agreement to deliver a fully integrated enterprise compliance platform by combining Meridio's enterprise document and records management platform (eDRM) with ember.HeatShield, ember's governance, risk and compliance management (GRCM) solution based on the Microsoft® Office System.

Meridio and ember are leveraging the strengths of both offerings to provide customers with an enterprise-wide compliance platform, seamlessly integrated within the Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft SharePoint® Portal Server. The solution encompasses all the components of the framework developed by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) which provide a sound basis for establishing internal control systems and determining their effectiveness. It manages all the various elements of the COSO framework, from the internal environment to monitoring and reporting for multi-jurisdictional, multi-divisional enterprises.

Based on the familiar look and feel of the Microsoft Windows®-based platform and Microsoft Office software, the enterprise compliance platform minimizes the amount of user training required, and offers quick return on investment. Microsoft Office software create the majority of unstructured content which has to be managed as a record, minimizing changes to current operational practices.

"For effective governance, risk and compliance management, organizations need their employees to collaborate in an integrated, seamless enterprise," said Mike Tobias, president and CEO of ember. "We are delivering the only GRCM solution that helps compliance teams gain momentum and increase productivity – two elements that are crucial in battling risk and internal control management challenges."

By creating a Microsoft Office System-based solution, Meridio and ember now offer the industry-leading Governance, Risk and Compliance solution. This comprehensive solution provides a seamless offering to organizations, giving them the benefits of Windows SharePoint Portal Server. This translates into greater transparency and consistency in applying internal controls to help manage regulatory risk across the enterprise.

"All companies, regardless of industry, are facing stringent requirements for compliance and governance. Finding a solution that can be deployed enterprise-wide and become widely adopted poses a very real challenge," said Brian Baird, CEO, Meridio. "The combination of Microsoft, Meridio and ember technologies enables compliance personnel to understand and manage risk, while allowing information workers across the enterprise to do their jobs more efficiently, and participate in the records management policies and procedures of the organization."

"Businesses increasingly ask information workers to collaborate on documents, pull data from diverse sources and make that information available in a controlled manner," said Emma Da Silva, Director, Information Worker Group, Microsoft Canada Co., "It is exciting to see technology partners bringing innovative solutions to the marketplace based on the Microsoft Office System, to help increase productivity and enhance knowledge sharing."
