Dartmouth College Improves Performance of its Web Site with Verity Ultraseek

Ivy League School Opts for Verity Ultraseek Downloadable Enterprise Search Engine

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2005-05-23 - Verity Inc., (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced that Dartmouth College, a member of the Ivy League, has deployed the powerful, downloadable Verity® Ultraseek® enterprise search engine software on the school's multifaceted Web site, www.Dartmouth.edu.

With the increase in the number of documents on their site over the past two years, Dartmouth's Web professionals recognized the need for a new search engine. After a series of evaluation tests, the Ultraseek software's performance convinced the Dartmouth's computing services committee, which included representatives from system services, the library, several of its professional schools as well as the administration, to select it over other options. Today, the site is used by more than 10,000 Dartmouth students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public.

"Verity Ultraseek was the best of all the search engines we evaluated," said Brian Hughes, Dartmouth's associate director of Web operations in computing technical services. "The Verity product offers more flexibility, more fine-tuning, a deeper feature set and better customer support."

The school's use of the Verity Ultraseek search engine software has resulted in increased search speed and a reduction of frustration and time that users spent finding information on the Dartmouth site.

"Dartmouth's Web presence represents a fantastic educational information resource," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "The institution's use of Verity Ultraseek allows researchers, educators, students and the general public to make the most of significant intellectual capital assets. Verity is pleased Dartmouth selected our Ultraseek software over other search engines. It is a compliment that a leader in higher education chose a leader in enterprise search."

The Verity Ultraseek software ensures that all Dartmouth-related Web content that should be indexed can be indexed. The new search engine expands index capacity from 100,000 to one million documents, permitting more accurate and relevant search results. In addition, a wider range of document formats can now be indexed quickly and accurately, including HTML, XML, text, RTF, PDF and Microsoft Office, among many others.
