Major Hospital Network Implements Verity Ultraseek for Intranet Use
CHRISTUS Health Finds Software-Based Search Engine Superior to Appliance Option
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2005-04-04 - Verity Inc., (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced that the latest version of its powerful, downloadable Verity® Ultraseek® enterprise search engine is being used by CHRISTUS Health on its intranet site. CHRISTUS Health is one of the top 10 Catholic health care systems in the United States, operating 40 hospitals and facilities in six states and Mexico.
The business case was clear for the CHRISTUS Health team tasked to find a new search engine for the organization's intranet: Allow the system's 8,000 physicians and 25,000 associates to find relevant information faster and easier than the in-place solution. "CHRISTUS Health has grown as an organization. As a result, the amount of content that we produce and use in our daily work has also increased at a significant rate," said Anna Vaughn, CHRISTUS Health's application development manager. "It was critical that we have an enterprise search engine that is easy to use and deploy with the capacity to handle our ever-growing information retrieval needs."
CHRISTUS Health evaluated several of the available search engines in the market. The process was narrowed to Verity Ultraseek, a software-based solution that can be downloaded and provide search across an enterprise in minutes, and a hardware-based search appliance.
"The Verity Ultraseek's ease of deployment, range of functionality and the avoidance of a dedicated, proprietary server were strong appeals," Vaughn said. "More important, Verity Ultraseek delivered higher quality, more accurate search results than alternative approaches."
The Verity Ultraseek-equipped CHRISTUS Health intranet involves hundreds of thousands of documents in many different file formats, from Word, to PDF, HTML and more.
"Getting the necessary information into the hands of health care professionals can be as critical to a patient's care and well-being as any medical process," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "We are pleased to see Verity Ultraseek play an important role at CHRISTUS Health. It is further evidence of the overall superiority of this downloadable enterprise search engine."
CHRISTUS Health also opted for the Verity Ultraseek Content Classification Engine (CCE) that organizes content into browseable topics for easy searching. This is a cost-effective categorization solution. With the CCE module, search and browse capabilities are tightly integrated. While viewing topics, users can conduct focused queries by searching within a topic. In response to queries, the CCE module displays search results and topics related to the returned documents. The result: even faster, more accurate searches.
