AUTONOMY SELECTED TO POWER INDUSTRY WIDE RESOURCE PORTAL FOR THE MEXICAN PETROLEUM MARKET

SAN FRANCISCO -March 16th, 2005 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU.), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, announced today that the Instituto Mexicano del Petroleo, Mexico's largest source of scientific investigation and technological development for the petroleum industry, has selected Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) to power their enterprise-wide information portal. The portal provides approximately 4,300 energy experts and technicians with access to information from the Institute's vast library which is the largest and most specialized of its kind in Mexico.

IMP provides numerous Mexican energy suppliers with the scientific and industry knowledge necessary to discover, refine, and deliver oil to the world's energy market. Using IDOL, IMP has been able to reduce the time engineers spend searching, addressing a critical need for real-time access to the most up-to-date and accurate research and development information. Using Autonomy's advanced personalization, profiling, categorization, and collaboration capabilities, IMP can facilitate knowledge distribution across their many oil and gas projects, and enable individuals to spend more time analyzing and disseminating information, instead of merely collecting it. The end result is production of higher quality products, recommendations, and decisions across the Mexican energy industry.

"Autonomy differentiated itself from other vendors through their willingness to work with us to promote a paradigm shift within the IMP organization", said Dr. Ernesto Azuela, Knowledge Management and Technological Intelligence Program Coordinator. "Instead of our engineers performing inaccurate searches that waste valuable time, Autonomy actually pushes the correct information to them - exactly when they need it. This is a hugely powerful resource that will change the way that IMP operates at core level".

IMP has a solid and sound technological base, and has been providing services and cutting-edge applications for the Mexican state-owned oil company PEMEX for 40 years, among other clients. Embedded in their own knowledge management and technological intelligence developments, Autonomy will help IMP to deliver valuable structured and unstructured content and context rich information objects.

"The Instituto Mexicano del Petroleo is a prime example of the benefit Autonomy's IDOL platform brings to managing structured and unstructured data," said Stouffer Egan, US CEO, Autonomy. "You can find and access the relevant data you need more quickly and do it across a multitude of languages, including Spanish."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants organizations the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across different departments and interest groups and enables them to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
