Milan Office to Better Pursue Market Opportunities, Enhance Support to Reseller Network

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2004-12-13 - Verity Inc., (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced the establishment of Verity Italy, a wholly-owned subsidiary that will be based in Milan.

The opening of the Milan facility marks an expansion of Verity's operations in Europe, which already includes in-country presence in the Benelux, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. "Europe has long been important to Verity as a source of growth and valued customer relationships," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "The establishment of Verity Italy is a natural part of that growth and a reflection of our commitment to serve the different needs and requirements of our customers in the country."

Verity Italy will sell the company's flagship product Verity® K2 Enterprise advanced search, classification and recommendation software as well as add-on capabilities such as Verity® Collaborative Classifier and Verity® Extractor. In addition, the company's existing resellers and partners will continue to sell Verity K2 Enterprise and Verity® Ultraseek® enterprise search engine, as well as the company's content capture and process automation products, notably Verity® TeleForm® and Verity® LiquidOffice™.

Siro Massaria, a seasoned software executive, will oversee Verity Italy, serving as sales manager. He will report to Didier Donnat, Verity France's country manager. "Verity Italy intends to build on the company's strong, existing strategic partnerships with such companies as Scube Newmedia to drive business growth," Donnat said. "Siro and his team will continue to work with the reseller networks in Italy to help Italian enterprises of all size to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investments." Some of Verity's existing customers in Italy include the Italian government, Fiat, Finsiel, Trenitalia and Il Sole 24 ORE.
