AUTONOMY LAUNCHES IDOL ENTERPRISE DESKTOP SEARCH COMPLETE WITH ACTIVE FOLDERS

Autonomy's IDOL technology brings understanding to the corporate desktop

San Francisco, CA - November 29, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU.) a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced the launch of IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search complete with Active Folders. IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search delivers the power of Autonomy's award winning IDOL technology to the corporate desktop by bringing together a wide variety of information ranging from office documents, email, websites, news and even multimedia content from multiple locations including corporate networks, the web, the desktop and local data sources. IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search is the first integrated tool that uses implicit query, working proactively with users on the corporate desktop to understand the information they require and bring it straight to them at the right time and in the right context.

Active Folders form a key part of IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search's unique capabilities. Dynamic, intelligent folders which automatically update their content as it becomes available fundamentally change the way corporate users are able to make use of the information assets within the enterprise. Using contextual matching, Active Folders understand the themes within any set of data and then automatically populate the folder with related information, regardless of its storage location, as soon as it becomes available in order to keep users right up to date. For example, lab workers in a large pharmaceutical company can use Active Folders in order to stay in touch with any information that could influence drug development; any information that was conceptually related to a particular drug development either within the corporate intranet such as lab reports, data from patient trials, or from research communities who publish on the web, even news stories that relate to the particular disease researchers are working on would be automatically organized into the relevant Active Folder. Total user flexibility allows users to create Active Folders implicitly or explicitly either by clicking on a document they are currently viewing or assigning keywords or phrases. Active folders provide a high degree of flexibility, allowing users the facility to view and interact with corporate information offline. Sophisticated security features including advanced authentication procedures which enable an administrator to disable a remote Active Folder if authentication is not received, (for example, in the case of a stolen or lost laptop), and SSL encryption are employed in order to safeguard all corporate assets.

IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search provides users with an integrated, intuitive tool on the desktop which fundamentally understands the information users require in order to maximize productivity and efficiency. By forming an understanding of the information on a user's screen, IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search works proactively to link users directly to related information on their corporate network, on the web or their local machine, entirely automatically.

Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy said, "IDOL Enterprise Desktop Search represents a fundamental change in the way users find and use information. By bringing together all the information at the heart of the enterprise, corporate networks, local information and critical external sources such as the web which users need to consult every day, we're providing a unique intelligent tool that works intuitively the way users do."
