AUTONOMY SUPPORTS STePS TO ACCESS GOVERNMENT INFORMATION

Cambridge, England - November 10, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.) a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that GovNet Communications has chosen Autonomy to power a new information portal for the public sector. GovNet's project, Search the Public Sector (STePS), provides a gateway to a wide array of information on all aspects of the UK government, including links to the latest news, initiatives and policies. It is available, free, to all users of the GovNet portal at www.GovNet.co.uk.

Many people in Britain today are asking for greater accountability of government institutions. The Freedom of Information Act, which will come into force in January 2005, will give citizens the right to request information from any government department and to receive a written reply. However, many requests and much bureaucracy could be avoided, if there was a fast and simple way of accessing information for everyone. STePS can provide the solution to this problem. Powered by Autonomy and equipped with the software's automatic hyperlinking, categorization, profiling, and conceptual retrieval facilities, the portal offers an easy and speedy way for users to find relevant information on the web.

Through Autonomy's ability to automatically aggregate content from numerous sources and in many different formats, the software enables users to access a great amount of information from one single point of entry. As Autonomy can understand the concepts inherent in any piece of data and automatically provide links to related documents, it offers a fast and accurate way for researchers to locate the specific sources they are interested in. Apart from offering automatic retrieval facilities, the system can also form an understanding of users' profiles and can feed relevant information to them in real-time without the need for any manual input - a service which will be available on the STePS portal from the end of this year.

Mark Phillips, Director of Communications at GovNet said, "STePS is the first internet portal that will provide a single point of access to all government related information. As a company in the private services sector, we are especially proud to have achieved this major step. Only Autonomy's unmatched aggregation, concept-retrieval and data management abilities have made this project possible, and we hope that as many people as possible will benefit from it."

Charlotte Herbert, Global Marketing Manager at Autonomy, supported this view. "STePS is an exciting new project and we are very pleased about Autonomy's involvement in facilitating it. Our software has already confirmed its value for the public sector in numerous applications, providing electronic support for government departments all over the world and powering such well-received ventures as the iBio and Globalwatchonline portals. We hope to repeat this success with GovNet."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
