AUTONOMY POWERS WORLD'S FIRST REAL-TIME NEWS INFORMATION SERVICE
Cambridge, England - October 25, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU. (autonomy.com) a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Information360° (information360.com) has selected Autonomy to power the world's first real-time information exchange. The service will be provided freely to serving news professionals such as journalists and researchers as well as subscribing news producers, including the enterprise. DORIS (Direct Online Real-Time Information System), will interact with the users PC or Mac desktop work environment by automatically understanding information the user is writing, reading or sharing and alerting and connecting users on-line to accurately related content and content related communities in real-time. Information360° has teamed with Autonomy partner Gatewest to provide both web-based and browser-less toolbar mounted user interface - another world-first in automated user-independent information delivery.
DORIS solves two fundamental challenges with news production. Firstly, news professionals require accurately related information for their stories that often exists beyond immediately available or 'known' resources. Secondly, information producers, such as business organisations, do not know which journalists are writing or researching a subject that is related to their projects, and whom they could target with further information. DORIS solves these challenges in real time while maintaining news professional's absolute privacy and confidentiality.
Ian Bell of Information360° said, "DORIS delivers the world's first real-time exchange by delivering breaking news directly to a user's desktop as it occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week thereby ensuring that critical information becomes immediately available and that users are not dependent on legacy keyword technologies or researching irrelevant sources. Further, DORIS delivers the world's first real-time exchange by enabling conceptually related communities to exist in real-time. Never before has such a service been provided that powers these processes automatically without the time-consuming inefficiencies and iterative refractions that manual labor inherently introduces."
Powered by Autonomy's IDOL technology, the Information360° service is accessed via a small, unobtrusive toolbar that sits at the top of a user's desktop and constantly monitors the active window environment. The tool is able to gather information from the user's current activities and connect to conceptually related backend resources that will include the Government News Network (GNN) and London Stock Exchange Regulated News Service (RNS). Results found in a multiplicity of ways are made available to subscribers via a pop-up menu, which can be accessed by clicking on the toolbar whenever the user needs related information.
Charlotte Herbert, Global Marketing Manager, Autonomy commented, "We are pleased to announce that Information360° has chosen Autonomy to power this highly innovative project. Our software is already widely used in the media industry and DORIS is another example of the great advantages Autonomy's applications provide for journalists and news professionals."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
