AUNGATE LAUNCHES SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION DETECTION MODULE

Compliance technology detects potential violations of professional conduct by monitoring the intent of electronic communications

Cambridge, England - 24 October 2004 - Aungate, a division of Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.), specializing in electronic communications management technology, today announced the launch of a new sexual harassment and discrimination detection module that is designed to automatically alert the enterprise to acts of sexual harassment and discrimination, by analyzing the content of emails, voice and instant messages. Aungate's new detection module has been developed at the behest of customers and in the light of recent high profile cases in the financial industry.

By automatically detecting potential violations of behavior and alerting the enterprise in real time, prior to poor practices becoming entrenched and irreparable, proactive remedial action can be taken which realigns individuals with the more positive culture that today's benchmark companies' desire. The alternative is to risk ignorance of such behaviors, which often creates a hostile environment in the workplace, and leaves the enterprise open to costly sexual harassment and discrimination cases, as recent events at high profile banking institutions have amply demonstrated.

In recent months a number of reports on legal payout and settlements resulting from the "inappropriate behaviour" of employees in well-known financial services companies have reached the public and shaken the financial industry. More often than not, cases of professional misconduct and sexual harassment in the workplace could be have been avoided if detected early enough. However, since most offending material that could provide evidence for such violations appears in the form of unstructured information - such as emails, voice or instant messages - it often remains undetected and can lead to serious reverberations long after its creation.

Building on Aungate's success as the de facto standard technology for compliance, litigation and risk operations, Aungate's sexual harassment and discrimination detection module provides companies with a powerful tool to monitor and influence behaviors that give rise to sexual harassment and discrimination. The technology analyzes instant messages, emails and voice communications in real-time, automatically routing offending material and alerting management to cases of potential and actual policy violations. As Aungate does not rely on keywords but forms a conceptual understanding of all communications, it is able to understand the meaning and intent of language, detecting abusive content even if it appears in the form of slang or code. With its highly scalable technology and modular structure, Aungate is able to analyze large volumes of data and provides the enterprise with powerful tools to manage growing amounts of information and respond to changing regulations effectively.

Ian Black, Managing Director, Aungate, said, "We are pleased to announce the launch of Aungate's sexual harassment and discrimination detection module, the first product on the market that allows organizations to detect offensive material proactively and monitors employees' behavior to avert cases of sexual harassment. Aungate is already widely used by major companies to ensure compliance with the financial regulations of the SEC and international accounting standards. Considering the number of recent high-profile cases concerning sexual harassment, it is thought that Aungate's new module will have a similar impact and become an equally indispensable tool for the industry."
