AUTONOMY EXPANDS OPERATIONS COVERING AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

Announces the appointment of new Senior Sales Manager

Cambridge, England - 13 October 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.) a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that it has begun investing in a significant expansion of operations in the Australia and New Zealand region, including the appointment of a new senior sales manager and technical team in Sydney.

Autonomy is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Cronin as Senior Sales Manager based out of Sydney, Australia. Mr. Cronin brings a wealth of valuable sales, management and technical experience to his new position with Autonomy. Mr. Cronin's recent experience includes roles as Strategic Accounts Director for Avaya Australia, Regional Account Director with Avaya for the IBM Asia Pacific account, and Account Executive for Lucent Technologies. Autonomy is also pleased to announce the appointment of a new Autonomy technical account manager, with further expansion expected reflecting Autonomy's commitment to its operations in Australia and New Zealand. These appointments are intended to benefit Autonomy's local partners and customers, including various defense and intelligence agencies and enterprises such as the National Australia Bank, Fontera, KPMG and AMP, as well as providing a solid base of support for new customers. Autonomy is also continuing to expand its growing offices in Singapore and Beijing, and has recently added personnel in Shanghai.

Andrew Kanter, Autonomy's Chief Operating Officer said, "Autonomy is a strong global company and we are keen to expand our existing presence in Australia and New Zealand and to bring our unique solution to a wider audience than ever before. The new appointments have been made in response to increased activity in the area. We are pleased to welcome our new team members, and look forward to working with them to make the most of the opportunities offered by the region."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
