Latest Version of Verity Federator Features Versatile Web Services Interface and Enterprise-Strength Security

Free Download Trial Now Available for Universal Search Platform

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2004-10-11 - Verity Inc., (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced the immediate availability of Verity® Federator version 2.0. Highlights of the new release include a versatile Web Services interface for heterogeneous and multiple search applications, as well as enhanced security capabilities.

Verity Federator is a universal search platform that provides secure and unified access to relevant information from virtually any content source across an organization and beyond, to further improve the return on intellectual capital assets. A Java infrastructure with a public application programming interface (API), the latest Verity Federator release includes significant new and enhanced features that allow users to get unified access to content quickly and accurately, while allowing customers to avoid the labor-intensive consolidation of Web sites, applications and other information sources. The product's key features and benefits include:

• Web Services interface that seamlessly brings together multiple search systems, including Verity's K2 and Ultraseek enterprise search products, as well as any third party search mechanism;

• The ability to apply, in real time, Verity K2's advanced capabilities, such as summarization, classification and recommendation to any vendor's search products;

• Enterprise-strength security to ensure that the existence of documents and their contents are made known only to designated individuals;

• Dynamic filtering, merging, and re-ranking of search results with multiple viewing options; and,

• Easy installation via simple, fast download and easy management.

Versatile Web Services Interface

The Federator's new Web Services interface enables developers to easily integrate multiple search engines across virtually any application, Web site or information source into a universal platform. This enables enterprise customers to jumpstart their search application's deployment process. In addition to protecting their current investment, this can help reduce IT resources spent in custom development and maintenance of multiple search systems. Using SOAP and XML standards, the Federator Search API allows developers to leverage their Web Services programming environment to simultaneously search multiple content repositories, without worrying about proprietary interfaces.

For example, with this new capability, any enterprise portal can now be easily connected to non-Web Services-enabled systems via the Verity Federator's Web Services interface. Search results from multiple content sources can be merged, ranked and presented to the users with a single click, optimizing users' search experience. The product also provides a user interface that can display several views of search results in a variety of languages.

With Verity Federator's Web Services interface, enterprise customers can easily extend Verity K2's advanced intellectual capital management capabilities, such as summarization, classification and recommendation, to search content on applications from virtually any vendor.

"The release of Verity Federator 2.0 marks another advancement in intellectual capital management for the enterprise," said Anthony Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "We are delivering on our promise for a Web Services interface in response to the needs of our global customers, as well as validation by industry analysts, such as Yankee Group, whose recently issued 2004 U.S. Enterprise Web Survey found 72 percent of respondents believe Web Services will improve an organization's access to information."

Searches Across and Beyond the Enterprise with Enterprise-Strength Security

Verity Federator comes equipped with pre-built "Workers" to instantaneously access Verity Ultraseek indices and Verity K2 collections, enhancing search relevancy in applications powered by Verity. In addition, the product's open architecture and JAVA Client API allow developers to easily build custom applications as well as Workers to access virtually any application or repository.

In today's global business environment where document security is a crucial factor in the minds of executive decision-makers and IT managers, Verity Federator is designed to ensure that the existence of documents and their contents are made known only to designated individuals. It leverages the advanced capabilities of Verity K2 to enforce internal authentication models for repositories, proprietary applications as well as third-party access management software. For external information sources, Federator fully supports source-specific credentials and cookies so only those files a given user is permitted to see are shown in the results.

Easy to Try, Deploy, Integrate and Use

To experience Verity Federator's capabilities and ease of deployment, Verity is offering a first-time free 60-day evaluation of Verity Federator at its download center (www.verity.com). Customers can create a universal search platform in minutes by downloading and installing Verity Federator.
