Unitor Deploys Verity TeleForm and LiquidOffice to Speed, Simplify Business Activities

Global Marine Services Company Opts for Verity Content Capture & Process Automation Software for Competitive Advantage

Sunnyvale, Calif. - 2004-10-05 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced Unitor ASA (UTO.OL), the largest global supplier to international merchant fleets and ocean-class commercial shipbuilders, has standardized on Verity® TeleForm® and Verity® LiquidOffice to improve forms processing of thousands of documents associated with its servicing 1,702 ports and 15,000 vessels annually.

What Unitor does appears simple: With a ship's arrival in port, the company ensures that the services and products ordered are ready for delivery. In just the past year, the company made 177,000 deliveries in 1,702 ports and 553 shipyards worldwide. In addition, it sells gases, chemicals and repair consumables, sells and installs shipboard fire and rescue equipment and produces and supplies cleaning, water treatment and fuel additive chemicals for use on the ships. The company is able to have each vessel sail on time because of its highly skilled personnel and the quality of its international service as well as its distribution network.

"We've been serving the maritime industries since 1936. Unitor has a long and proud corporate history. However, resting on the accomplishments of the past is not what keeps us in the lead of a highly competitive industry," said George Muthalaly, Unitor's chief technology officer. "Our expertise in information technology and logistics affords us a distinct competitive advantage."

"Unitor has been using Verity TeleForm to reduce invoice processing time from weeks to days. Verity LiquidOffice will be implemented shortly for an offline form solution for our Unitor Chemicals division to collect and analyze chemical composition data from shipboard water treatment systems," Muthalaly said. "Each is a best of breed solution; coming from the same vendor is an added plus."

Invoice Processing Improvement

Prior to deploying Verity TeleForm, Unitor processed paper delivery receipt notes using mail or couriers to send the documents from delivery port to the invoicing office. Delays were the rule, often long in length. The Verity-equipped solution links Verity TeleForm to the Captaris RightFax Enterprise Fax Server, along with Unitor's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, serving 1702 ports. The delivery notes remain in paper format, as an actual signature is still required for each delivery note. Signed and stamped delivery note receipts are faxed and routed to a Verity TeleForm server, where the delivery note and the customer order numbers are extracted, quality checked and exported together with the document image to be linked into the specific customer order in the ERP database. The system in turn triggers a message to the invoicing coordinator situated in one of Unitor's Customer Service Centers that serves the particular customer, informing that the customer order is ready to be invoiced.

"Verity TeleForm and LiquidOffice solutions help Unitor serve its customers and suppliers with greater efficiency and effectiveness," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "Initial performance prompted Unitor to take a closer look at Verity LiquidOffice and then standardize on the products for high volume, high accuracy content capture and process automation, respectively. We appreciate the confidence and commitment Unitor has shown in Verity and our products."

Faster, Better Test Results Analysis

Unitor Chemicals AS, a division of Unitor ASA, will use Verity LiquidOffice as a component of its new "Water Care" service concept. It will be used as a service to customers to register and analyze the chemical treatment residuals and other relevant parameters for water systems on board commercial vessels.

The importance of the Verity LiquidOffice offline form capability is that many vessels do not wish to use online capabilities via satellite phones while at sea. They require a mechanism that allows the registered information to be stored in their computers onboard the vessel until a reasonable amount of data can be sent to Unitor via E-Mail.

Verity LiquidOffice's ability to provide complex forms that can hold a significant number of data fields will be used to collect data. Typically, the data is gathered over one month and then transmitted to the Unitor's data center. If the levels are outside normal limits, the matter can be dealt with quickly and with consistent management methods.

Verity LiquidOffice's offline capabilities will be utilized for much of the data gathering. These forms will contain all the capabilities of a typical Verity LiquidOffice form: validations, logic, registration and much more. The password-accessed system has performed well in pilot tests conducted by Unitor. Worldwide deployment is expected to begin next month.
