AUTONOMY NAMED TO SOFTWARE MAGAZINE'S 22ND ANNUAL SOFTWARE 500

Software Magazine Ranks Autonomy as one of the World's Largest Software Companies for the Fifth Consecutive Year

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - October 4, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that for it has been included for the fifth consecutive year on the Software 500, Software Magazine's list of the world's foremost software and software and service providers,. The list has been published at www.softwaremag.com.

The Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking of the world's largest software and service providers targeting enterprise IT organizations, both public and private, and rates companies based on total worldwide revenue for 2003. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, and training, and software-related services and consulting. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co. and posted at www.softwaremag.com, as well as from public documents.
