Newest Release of Verity KeyView Software Development Kits Now Available

High Performance, High Fidelity Viewing, Filtering and Export of Content Can Be Built Into Applications with Ease

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2004-09-27 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced the immediate availability of its latest Verity® KeyView® Software Development Kits (SDKs) for enterprise applications, version 8. The SDKs' high performance and high fidelity content viewing, filtering and export capabilities provide global enterprise users with seamless access to a wide range of intellectual capital in 296 file formats and more than 70 languages.

The Verity KeyView Suite of Software Development Kits consists of:

• Verity KeyView Filter SDK, that permits applications to quickly and accurately extract all text and metadata from documents in various formats, allowing users to effectively manage, evaluate and take action on high-value content;

• Verity KeyView Export SDK, that rapidly converts multiple file formats into valid XML and Web-ready HTML formats; and,

• Verity KeyView Viewing SDK, that lets end-users view and print business-critical documents without installing the native applications.

"KeyView technology enhances the value and performance of thousands of enterprise applications. With the enhanced features of this new release, Verity is providing more reasons for independent software vendors (ISVs) to integrate content viewing, filtering and export capabilities into their applications," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "As the amount and variety of content continues to grow at a rapid pace in enterprises of all sizes and types, software must include the quality, performance and fidelity offered by the Verity KeyView SDKs."

To ease the integration of Verity KeyView SDKs into applications, each supports a range of programming environments, such as C, Java and COM; as well as the Unicode character set standard. These new KeyView SDKs also support Itanium Processors for applications that run on the most widely used operating systems, including: RedHat Linux, HP-UX and Windows 2003. In response to the increasing demands from global enterprise customers for a broader range of format support, Verity KeyView release 8 now offers support for the latest version of Adobe PDF 1.5, OpenOffice 1.0, Microsoft Office 2003 XML, Sun StarOffice 7.0 and Visio 2003. The Verity KeyView SDKs are designed to reduce development costs, speed time-to-market and provide higher overall quality for ISVs.

"Whether it's Lotus, Messageware or Entrust, all using the KeyView Export SDK, or Novatix, which uses KeyView Viewing SDK for its ExplorerPlus file management suite, our customers choose Verity for quality, performance and fidelity," Bettencourt said. "The KeyView technology is also a key component of Verity K2 and Verity Ultraseek enterprise search solutions, valued by millions of users around the world."

Verity KeyView Filter SDK - To Access High-Value Content Fast

The Verity KeyView Filter SDK lets applications filter and extract text from multiple formats on a wide variety of platforms. The SDK can automatically recognize up to 296 file types and apply the correct filter without relying on filename extensions. As a result, users of applications can manage, evaluate and take action on the content that they access from different sources and in various formats, without installing the native applications. For proprietary file formats not supported directly, the KeyView Filter SDK also provides the flexibility to build custom filters to meet unique business requirements.

Verity KeyView Export SDK - To Convert Hundreds of File Formats into XML and HTML

Valid XML and Web-ready HTML conversion is achieved easily and with certainty with the Verity KeyView Export SDK, allowing documents to be widely accessible and usable for users. A simple, effective way to enable a wide range of applications to perform better and hold more value for buyers and users, this SDK provides controlled data structure conversion for XML and HTML formatting.

Verity KeyView Viewing SDK - For Highest Possible Fidelity Display and Printing of Files

Verity KeyView Viewing SDK allows the display and printing of a multitude of file formats with high fidelity. This latest release provides a viewing application programming interface and ActiveX Control, which allows the integration of this SDK into an enterprise application faster and easier than previous versions.
