Proofpoint Selects Verity KeyView Filter Technology for Integration with its Enterprise Message Protection Software

Range of File Types Supported, Speed to Access and Process Email Contents and Reliability Found to be Superior to Other Filtering Technology

SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-08-03 - Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced that Proofpoint, Inc., the leader in comprehensive message protection solutions for large enterprises, will integrate the Verity® KeyView® Filter Software Development Kit (SDK) into its flagship product, the Proofpoint Protection Server‘.

The Proofpoint Protection Server protects corporate messaging infrastructures from external email threats, such as spam and viruses, and ensures compliance with corporate email policies and external regulations. The company claims it provides the most accurate spam detection and email classification on the market today, based on Proofpoint MLX™ machine learning technology.

"The efficiency and overall quality of the KeyView technology made its selection for integration into Proofpoint Protection Server easy," said Rami Habal, Proofpoint's senior product manager. "The breadth of file types supported by the Verity technology and the speed with which it accesses and processes email contents as well as its consistent reliability were clearly superior to the other available filtering technologies we evaluated."

The Verity KeyView Filter SDK will be used by Proofpoint to perform granular analysis of the content of attachments to outgoing email to determine if a company's outbound email policies are being breached in any form.

Verity KeyView Filter automatically recognizes up to 295 file formats to permit email content and attachments to be sent to an enterprise's email policy engines where the appropriate protective measures are taken by the content filtering capabilities of the Proofpoint Protection Server. The Verity technology can be integrated quickly into the Proofpoint's software because it supports a range of programming environments, such as C, Java and Com, as well as the Unicode character set standard. It also provides support for the latest versions of the most widely used operating systems, including Linux, UnixTM and Windows Server 2003.

"The risk posed by unauthorized distribution of emails to and from an enterprise must be managed effectively," said Andrew D. Feit, Verity's senior vice president of marketing. "The Verity KeyView Filter SDK is fast becoming the de facto filtering technology for email messaging systems around the world - by virtue of it being the choice for companies like Proofpoint and most other vendors in this software category. Through our partnership with Proofpoint, global organizations can securely and effectively manage enterprise email systems."
