Verity Names Four New Vice Presidents

Promotions Reflect Growing Importance of Company's Corporate and Field Marketing, International Finance & Administration and Technical Support Functions

SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-06-29 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced the promotion to vice president of four individuals who have all been with the company for several years. The executives and their new titles are:

• Michael A. Kietzman, vice president, technical support

• Gary G. Szukalski, vice president, demand and field marketing

• Derek C. van Bronkhorst, vice president, corporate marketing

• Eric M. Weenink, vice president, finance & administration for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) operations

"Mike, Gary, Derek and Eric have each demonstrated a commitment to quality, integrity and successfully meeting a range of demanding challenges," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "As Verity has grown into a multi-faceted global company, they have increased and improved the contributions of their business functions in outstanding fashion. Their promotions recognize the significant impact these individuals have had on Verity's growth and the broadening of their responsibilities that reflect the company's recent expansion and success."

Kietzman becomes vice president of technical support, a part of the company's services organization. He will continue to report directly to Sunil D. Nagdev, Verity's senior vice president of worldwide services. Kietzman has been with Verity for six years, first serving as a senior support engineer, followed by promotions to manager, and later director, of worldwide technical support. Prior to Verity he developed and maintained software for one of Canada's leading outdoor equipment retailers. Kietzman began his technical career as a software and environmental programs developer for the Calgary, Alberta board of education. He is a resident of Calgary, Alberta in Canada.

As vice president of demand and field marketing, Szukalski directs Verity's efforts to support the sales organization on matters from proposal development to events and lead generation programs. He has been with Verity since 2000. Szukalski continues to report to Andrew D. Feit, Verity's senior vice president of marketing. He had been director of field marketing. Before joining Verity, Szukalski was with FileTek, a data management software developer, where he held a series of positions of increasing management responsibility, the last being vice president of North American sales operations. His initial professional experience was with EDS and General Electric Information Systems as a systems programmer. A resident of Frederick, Maryland, Szukalski holds a bachelors degree in computer science from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.

As the company broadens the reach and meaning of its brand into new software categories and markets, van Bronkhorst becomes vice president of corporate marketing. He is responsible for corporate and marketing communications, media and analyst relations, all Web presences and advertising. He continues to report to Feit. van Bronkhorst joined Verity in 2000 from Flexion Systems, a telecommunications equipment supplier, where he served as vice president of global marketing. Before that he was a corporate communications director with Levi Strauss & Company, the world's largest apparel manufacturer. He began his career work at Siemens Rolm, the global telecommunications vendor, where he held a series of internal and external communications positions of increasing scope and responsibility. An award-winning marketer, van Bronkhorst holds a bachelor of science in communications from Oregon State University. He is a resident of Redwood City, California.

Weenink's new role as vice president of finance and administration for EMEA and APAC operations underscores the importance and focus of Verity's continued expansion into markets outside the United States. He began with Verity in 1992 in an accounting position. Most recently, Weenink served as controller for the EMEA and APAC regions. He continues to report to Steven R. Springsteel, Verity's senior vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer. Prior to Verity, Weenink was a corporate accountant with Mentor Graphics, an electronic design automation software maker. He holds a bachelors degree in economics from De Hogeschool Alkmaar ("College of Alkmaar"). Weenink is a resident of Purmerend, the Netherlands.
