InfoMedia Successfully 'Re-invents' Itself with Verity Software
Verity K2 Enterprise, Verity Profiler Play Key Roles in European Online Media Monitoring Service
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-06-28 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced that InfoMedia, a major Scandinavian online media monitoring and search service based in Denmark, has implemented Verity® K2 Enterprise (K2E) advanced search, classification and recommendation software and Verity® Profiler, a high-performance real-time classification engine, for its subscriber-based news and information service.
InfoMedia, a product of a merger of the online units of the two largest newspaper corporations in Denmark, has made dramatic, and successful, improvements to its online news service with the advanced features of Verity technologies.
At its start, InfoMedia sold access to content in its database and from other external media sources. The company's management quickly realized that this was not a formula for sustained growth. "We needed to shift to media monitoring and alerts, pushing desired content accurately and in real-time from our database to subscribers, who are mostly individuals within corporations and public institutions," said Lennart Christensen, InfoMedia's manager of content and media. "However, to do that we needed scalable, flexible search and classification technologies that could grow with us easily, as well as handle emerging multimedia formats."
The evaluation process was thorough and focused on the business' needs. "We needed a solution that could profile, meta-tag and index content, and then have it be searchable within minutes as well as be able to deal with a tremendous amount of content in a highly-reliable manner," Christensen said. He added the system also needed to provide Danish language support.
InfoMedia's decision to select Verity K2E coupled with the Verity Profiler classification engine was based on the two products' high quality and broad functionality on all critical measures as well as strong language support.
"The InfoMedia's Web presence represents a fantastic news and information resource," said Hugo Sluimer, Verity's senior vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) operations. "We are pleased that Verity's advanced search and classification technologies have helped InfoMedia's subscribers to leverage the news service's intellectual capital assets."
The InfoMedia's subscriber-based news and information service Web site is an extensive system which contains more than nine million documents, with 3,000 documents being added each day. The company is currently classifying information into relevant taxonomies from 37 different sources, including 17 daily newspapers, ten magazines, five wire services and four Web news services. There are plans to add eight more newspapers and at least four magazines within months.
Christensen stated that the new system, with Verity at its core, has resulted in significant return-on-investment both in terms of revenue and operational efficiencies for the company, which is critical to the long-term success of InfoMedia. Harnessing the automatic classification capabilities of Verity K2E, augmented by domain expertise, with the Verity Profiler's high speed matching of documents with queries helps to ensure that users are delivered the most relevant search results. In addition, InfoMedia has realized a 40 percent increase in the number of articles that could be categorized automatically over the prior process, yielding a 200 percent productivity improvement in classification.
