DELPHI GROUP RESEARCH SHOWS AUTONOMY RECOGNIZED FOR LEADERSHIP IN CLASSIFICATION & TAXONOMY SOFTWARE BY BUSINESS USERS

San Francisco, Calif. - June 16, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy technology has been recognized in recent research, "Information Intelligence: Content Classification and the Enterprise Taxonomy Practice" by Delphi Group, a leading provider of business advisory services that illuminate the value proposition of technology in digital business practice. This Delphi Group report is the first in a series examining technologies and business opportunities in enterprise-level content classification and taxonomy practices. For the full report, please visit - http://www.autonomy.com/downloads/Marketing/Analyst%20Reports/DelphiGroup_InformationIntelligence_June04.pdf.

The Delphi Group study defines content classification and taxonomy technologies as well as trends relating to this technology. The report includes a technology study on Autonomy's offerings that specifically explain ways to address this practice. According to the report, "Founded in 1996, Autonomy has been one of the most quickly growing businesses among the four publicly-traded firms in the industry over the past five year period."

The report also includes results of a survey conducted by Delphi Group to determine market awareness of various companies in this industry. According to the results drawn from a market survey of 300 professionals, Autonomy is a leader in terms of individual market mind share.

"Business users are telling us that they are spending too much time pulling down barriers to information access set up by their systems environments," said Hadley Reynolds, research director, Delphi Group. "Autonomy's IDOL Server and its classification capabilities can help smooth professionals' navigation and discovery process -- among both disparate systems and information formats."

"Autonomy is proud to have Delphi's recognition of our leadership and combination of automatic and manual approaches to taxonomy creation and maintenance," said Stouffer Egan, CEO Autonomy North America. "Autonomy has proven time and again that our technology, based on our IDOL platform, is one of the most intelligent, effective ways to deliver information within the enterprise."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
