Lafarge's Intranet Powered by Autonomy Goes Live

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - May 26, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.) a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Lafarge Group, the leader in building materials, has launched a new enterprise wide intelligent retrieval system, powered by Autonomy as an integral part of their corporate intranet. Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) will provide support to the sharing of information and knowledge among the 77,000 users in 77 countries in 10 different languages.

Lafarge adopted an advanced information infrastructure to increase its competitive advantage and strengthen its position as a world leader in building materials. Autonomy enables Lafarge's 77,000 employees across the globe to have dynamic, real-time access to critical information. Users in 77 countries now have instant access to pertinent information irrespective of language, format or storage location. Automatic hyperlinking and summarization functions reduce the time users spend searching for documents and alert users to pertinent information. Autonomy's unique ability to form a conceptual understanding of any data enables users to be automatically linked to related information held within the organization.

Dominique Malige, CIO of Lafarge said, "With employees around the globe, we needed to provide an intranet not only capable of supporting our workforce but also capable of maximizing our knowledge assets. We see significant benefits in improved efficiency and access to knowledge from using Autonomy's technology within our contact center."

"Lafarge's decision to deploy Autonomy as an enterprise wide standard represents the success of a sustained relationship between the two companies," said Dominic Johnson, Group Marketing Director, Autonomy. "We are seeing a number of existing customers select Autonomy as a de facto standard which is powerful testament to Autonomy's ability to deliver a compelling return on investment."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
