Verity Positioned in Leader Quadrant of 2004 Enterprise Search Magic Quadrant

SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-05-24 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced that Gartner Inc. (NYSE: IT), an independent research firm, has listed Verity in the leader quadrant in the just-released Gartner 2004 Enterprise Search Magic Quadrant.

"We are very pleased that Verity has once again been cited in the leader quadrant in the Gartner's annual Magic Quadrant report on the Enterprise Search market," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and chief executive officer. "Furthermore, we believe that our recent acquisitions of Cardiff Software and NativeMinds extend Verity's leadership position by providing customers with the broadest range of intellectual capital management solutions. These technologies can deliver even greater value for customers, and are fast becoming required capabilities of any modern deployment."

Verity's intellectual capital management solutions provide integrated search, classification, recommendation, monitoring and analytics across the real-time flow of enterprise information, along with question and answer interfaces for effective online self-service. Verity's integrated content capture and processes automation solutions make manual processes more efficient and increase customers' control over their business, in addition to making the content that drives key business processes actionable in real time.

To determine the position in the Magic Quadrant, Gartner used a set of criteria to measure a vendor's ability to serve an organization's search needs, including its financial strength, enterprise visibility and installed base, pricing flexibility and appeal, as well as service leverage.

Gartner defines vendors listed in the leader quadrant as performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market. According to the report, "Leader" quadrant vendors serve enterprise needs today and can better anticipate future needs. A key requirement of this is that "Leaders" must also have the resources and viability to respond to those anticipated needs. The Magic Quadrant analysis places specific vendors within one of four segments: "Leaders," "Visionaries," "Challengers," or "Niche Players." The 2004 Search Engine Magic Quadrant evaluated 21 companies, including Verity.

The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted May 2004 by Gartner Inc. and is reused with permission, which permission should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner Inc.'s opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the "Leaders" quadrant. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player quadrants may be the right matches for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant.
