Verity Appoints Jack E. Landers to Vice President of Human Resources

Experienced Executive Joins Company to Help Manage Growth

SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-05-04 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced the appointment of Jack E. Landers to vice president of human resources.

Landers will report to Steven R. Springsteel, senior vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer. In his new position at Verity, Landers will oversee all human resources activities, including benefits, compensation, employee communications, coaching, recruitment, development and retention. In addition, as the company continues on its strategic growth path, evidenced by its recent acquisitions of Cardiff Software and NativeMinds, Landers will apply his skills to integration strategies, succession planning, compensation and retention.

Before joining Verity, Landers was vice president of human resources at Legato Systems Inc., where he was a member of the executive team that restored the company to profitability and revenue growth while managing all programs, policies and processes affecting the selection, development, retention and productivity of 1,500 employees worldwide. Prior to Legato, Landers was vice president of human resources for Pacific Gateway Exchange where he built a complete human resources function form inception to meet the needs of a fast growing telecommunications and Internet company that saw its headcount grow from 100 to 400 in 12 months.

Landers began in human resources as the western area human resources manager for Digital Equipment Corporation, now part of HP. From there he went to Bay Networks, now part of Nortel, as the HR manager for U.S. sales, marketing, and customer development functions. Before Legato, Landers served as Symantec's senior director of human resources services for the security and anti-virus software company's development groups, corporate staff and sales and support operations in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Landers is a resident of Redwood City, Calif. He holds a bachelor of arts and a master of arts from Boston College.
